Louis L'Amour, "Walking Drum" not a western. It is a historical novel that takes place in the 12th century, ( you will meet Kerbachard there!) and of course anything else by him. "Last of the Breed" awesome!
..Sun Tzu , The Art of War, interpreted by Samuel B. Grittih a book you will want to study, considered the most authoritative book on the strategy of war, and can be applied to everything. I even seen one applying the philosophies on "babysitting" ! ..that's why I suggest the author. also a book by Bernard Lewis, it is the etymology of the word "assassin" fascinating.! This book was use by Louie on "Walking Drum". And of course the "Dark Tower" series by Stephen King, or the Stand. if this ain't enough or not to your taste, e-mail and I'll share some more, but Sun Tzu ...NO FLUFF!!!

The " The Ascent of Man" by Bronowski describes to rise of civilisation in the middle east and relates it to events described in the bible(old testament).
"What Uncle Sam Really Wants" by Noam Chomsky examines the drivers behind American foreign policy since WW2.
"2001 Space Oddysey" by Arthur C Clarke. Indescribably good Sci Fi
"Dirk Gently The Holistic Detective" by Douglas Adams relates the improbable story of a detective who discovers that Odin has sold out the entire pantheon of Norse gods for some crisp white linen. How a story this bizzare hangs together I`ll never know but the result is one of the funniest books I have ever read.
I know thats four books but life is long.Pen

Watership Down by Richard Adams is my personal favorite. Or, If you are into sci fi, check out Enders Game by Orson Scott Card (there are about 6 more books in the series). Politically, I'd go with Chomsky's Hegemony or Survival. The illuminatus! Trilogy is good, by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson as well as Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S Thompson. They all are fairly popular, so you may have read them.
