has anyone heard that story (no not the one told on "stay alive", the real one). isn't it messed up?

for people who don't know it,
this countess in the 1500-1600s became obsessed with eternal youth and believed that bathing in young girls' blood would keep her looking young. so she would secretly torture he servants and peasant girls.

she tortured them in these ways:
~took them outside in the winter time {while they were naked} and poured freezing cold water on them and watched them freeze to death
~burn their pubic hair while still on them
~stick needles through their face and beneath their fingernails

and once she was done torturing them she would hang them upside down, their ankles locked in chains. hanging right above her bathtub, she would slash their throats and let the blood fill the bathtub while she bathed in it. she killed about 650 girls.

isn't that sick?

does anyone know any other stories that could match a tragedy like this?

Basically - it's a pretty good description of sociopathic behaviour.

Other historical figures to look into if you are really interested:

Vlad Tepes (Vlad the Impaler)

The Marquise de Sade - noted author

The Spanish Inquisition - not only did they torture other people, but they convinced brilliant and talented people to destroy their own works of art. Many of Bottecelli's work were lost in this manner.

John Wayne Gacy - modern, but still horrible.

Henry Lee Lucas - confessed to 3,000 murders, most likely was involved in 200 maximum, was convicted of 11. Died in 2001.

Jeffery Dahmer - killed 17 men, ate parts of them. Died in prison.

There's a lot of sick people out there...

And one last one -

Typhoid Mary - she carried the Typhoid virus unknowingly and spread the disease to 22 people while never becoming sick herself. Once her situation was made clear, she spent 3 years in isolation until a judge released her on the condition of her never being employed as a cook again. In 1915, an outbreak of 25 cases of typhoid was traced back to Mary (she was working again as a cook under an alias). She was sent back in isloation where she lived the remainder of her life.

The public had been sympathic to her during the first incident, since she was unaware of her situation, but public feeling in the second was that she knowingly exposed her employers and their families in the second.

Other serial killers usually have some kind of mental illness, but Typhoid Mary was absolutely sane.

That's pretty sick.

She did most likely NOT bathe in blood if you get information from true sources, and not stories. There were several hundred witnesses at her trial, and not one ever mentioned "bloodbathing". This is likely a fabrication that happened sometime in the last 300+ years to make the story juicier so to speak. But her true vicious deeds are detailed well.

She shredded their flesh
Put burning coins in their hands.
Pulled the corners of the mouth until the mouth split.
Burned girls in almost every spot with red hot pokers.
Starved some to death
Froze some
Cut veins with scissors
When she was sick, she would have a girl brought to her room where she would bite the girl, ripping pieces of flesh off. Most victims were simply beaten to death. Erzsebet suffered from fits/rages and had a horrific temper, and being of such noble blood, she was able to torture and even kill peasant girls, whenever and however she wanted too.

Yes, she was sick , and quite brutal too. Along with her accomplices, she is guessed to have killed anywhere from 80 to 650 girls. A diary is supposed to exist with 600 names of the victims in her own handwriting, but this has never surfaced, so has not been proven.

As far as a single (non leader/ruler) person, I think she takes the cake as far as mass murder goes. Some come close though surely, and torture was quite common throughout the dark ages and the renaissance. Much more so than now. She would certainly pale in comparison to someone like Hitler or Stalin though. On another note, she does seem to be one of the rare killers who took great pleasure in the act of torture itself and never once expressed remorse for her many victims, even after she was walled up. Try this source, it has the facts and does its best to weed out the many fake stories concerning Ms Bathory.

particular. Erzsebet (Elizabeth) Bathory replaced right into a real individual. the sole doubt absolutely everyone has approximately her is what proportion youthful women individuals have been killed so as that the Countess could fill her tub. There are valid information (letters, court docket transcripts, etc.) that set up her as having lived and of having been charged with the crimes attributed to her. There are numerous sturdy books approximately Countess Bathory on the industry as we talk. i might recommend searching for books printed below the aegis of tutorial establishments in case you prefer to get the genuine tale.

There's alot more than just that to her story.. It is a tragedy, and seems extremely unusual, however, it is not really any worse than some of the things that have been done in even the last 100 years.. The fact that she really did not have to pay for it is the worst part.. (being locked in a room was nothing.. she was fed, did speak to people through the window.. but they could not do what they would NORMALLY have done to her because she was a royal.. )
