Two dogs lined up to run a race. When the race began, neither of the dogs ran straight to the finish line as they were trained to do. One of the dogs ran west and then north and the other dog ran east and then south. Why?

I know!
The dog that ran west and then north was looking for a fire hydrant, he hadn't been to the bathroom in ages and man did he have to go NOW!
The other dog, seeing that the first dog had run off, decided that he'd already won the race by forfeit and made his way over to the winners circle where he had a big bowl of kibble and caught the eye of a sassy french poodle!
