The first thing to do about budgeting is to record everything you spend money on in a period - say 3 months.
Then you divide the things into fixed expenses (rent/mortgage, car repayments, insurance) and changeable expenses (electricity, gas, fuel, food) and discretionary spending (Clothes, entertainment, dining out etc).
Then you work out after the first two whether there is any money for the third.
Too many put number 3 first and wonder why they can't make it on one and two.
