What you need is a "Cable/DSL Router". This allows multiple pc's to use the internet at the same time.

Get a Linksys wireless model. That way you can plug in the pc's, or wireless if your laptop has it.

Something like the http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1149562300349&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=0034939789B01 is very common. The installation software that comes with it is very simple, you'll be up and running in a couple of minutes.

Ok first check if your modem has wireless connection after you check that see if your Laptop has a WI-FI connecting switch( it could be on the side) but if you don't see on don't worry it can still have one but you have to activate it manually thru your computer ok so now go to the start menu and click on the CONNECT TO button and see if your computer has identify your wireless connection it could be named something like 2wire#### after you found yours click on it then it will ask you for a password of you have never used it before the password is on the bottom of your modem in [ ##########] it should be like ten digits after that it will connect to it and there your ready to surf the web but it could only work in your home because your modem will act like a router if you have any other questions just give me a holar..

Your friends wireless card is probably built in. What type of router do you have. If you have a dsl connection, I suggest you get a wireless router with a built in modem. You may need to make sure your wireless card in your laptop is compatible as well. When I got my wifes, the card was built in and it connected to our 2wire router at startup!! Usually if your laptop has a card, it would look for a connection automatically.

You need a router. This replaces the modem and can connect multiple machines at the same time. Your laptop may have a wireless card, most do, check your network connections, if so you could get a wireless router, the laptop can connect wireless and the pc can still use the wired connection.

You need to purchase a wireless router and a wireless network adapter for the laptop.

Connect the wireless router to the modem. Connect the desktop to the routers ethernet port and install the wireless adapter in the laptop and that will allow you to share the internet connection between your computers and allow you to be mobile in your home with your laptop.
