I'm in Grade 10 and want to get at least five A's in 8 subjects but I always get three. I study four hours after school. I study then practice and try to do online quizes but for some reason I never get a good mark and my marks always come down. I want to get straight A's because I do study to get it but I can't. I usually get B's or C+'s. Other people study for five minutes and perfect ,they get 100%. Is there something wrong here? I have perseverence and won't give up but I think this is the time when the quote" Practice makes Perfect" won't occur. The grade 10 will be over next week and I want to make new plans for grade 11.

Any help will be appreciated it.

Hum! You need a plan... Try THIS; before school begins next September- see if you can get a couple of student tutors to help you through your hardest subjects in the 11th Grade. Explain to them what you want to do- and see if their tutoring will help you get the "A"s you want. If you have the WILL- you'll find the WAY. Good luck- & congrats. for getting through 10th Grade! For many of us- it's the toughest! :)

Focus on what you feel iffy on. If you know you're good at something, lightly focus on it, but if you're having trouble on say, memorizing log (x) / 5 or something, make notecards, or find something you enjoy doing and incorporate it into it. Don't make studying a hassle or a burden. Trust me, when you're sitting in class, and you have the test in front of you, the last thing you want to do is remember how long it took for you to study for this stupid test. You are better off remembering that stupid song you made up for the answers .Stupid as it may be, if it helps you get better grades AND helps you in the long run with school head on, it's worth it.

Grade 10 was also my worst year in High School, also. Grade 11 is what most four year colleges look at. Again, don't look at studying as a chore, and study mostly on what you feel you don't really know, and lightly on what you are somewhat confident you don't know.

Get an experienced professional tutor. You may not be learning the correct things or you're not learning enough. It also depends on how you answer the questions during the tests and exams. You may not be answering the question appropriately even though you may think you are. Students with additional help from teachers and especially home tutors perform much better. It's good to study hard, but it's better to study smart.

I understand how you feel. But maybe you should try past year exam papers in addition to online quizzes. This is because online quizzes may have a different standard that that of your school and they may also not match your syllabus. Past year examination papers will also give you a wider range of exposure to different types of questions. Maybe you can try setting your own questions too, or asking yourself.

Also constantly practice your skills, not only your theory. Skills include speed, inference, evidence, explanation (in the cased of Humanities) etc. These are very important.

Make sure you understand the topic too (a key factor) as this will help you in memorizing stuff. By understanding you will also have an advantage in answering application questions.
Clarify any doubts with your teachers.

Hope this helps! =)

Be proud of what you have accomplished and the studying that you have done. You are doing your best, what more can anyone ask for. Be glad that you are energetic and ambitious and willing and able to study and make it through high school We all cannot be brain surgeons or rocket scientists. Don't forget this country needs everyone's contribution to society.
