Having been in both, I would suggest the Debate Society. Although Drama Club is a good way to express yourself creatively, it also requires that you draw upon emotions and experiences to perform. Debate, on the other hand, deals in facts and opinions....much safer territory for one who is shy (I would think).

I am an actress, so my first thought was to scream DRAMA CLUB!! but no- I would have to say Debate society, though I think drama club would be great fun if your goal is to overcome shyness in your everyday life - debate would be better. I love being on stage because I can become a different person. However, I still get extremely anxious adressing a large group of people as myself...
So if you want to learn how to open up and let loose parts of yourself openly in a creative receptive setting go drama -
but if you want to learn how to get the courage to voice your opinion in front of others and speak your mind - go debate.

,, Are you so shy that you fumble your speach in front of strangers? That's my problem. So what I am saying is that Drama would help overall in your shyness, but there is already a line made for you to say.. On the other hand in debate, you would have to come up with your own argument, nothing is written for you.. And you would be able to logically speak to people without certain words alluding you. But I think either one would be great. Because you conquer your shyness with either and bost confidence.

This depends on your own personality. Either may work or neither. Different things work for different people. Some people will always be shy to a certain extent.
If you are able to do both Drama and Debate, go for it. If you don't like arguing or confrontation (no matter how minor), debate club may not be for you. Your life your choice. I still say try both.

Debate Society will fix your shyness. Man, you really wanna do that? Debate is hard! If your goal is speaking and overcoming shyness, there's nothing like Debate. You have to participate for the group, you have to speak regularly, everytime. YIKES, I'm getting anxious, just thinking of the details!

I would vote for Drama Club.
Either one you will be working with others, but drama is probably a bigger group. Additionally, in debate you are performing for judges, probably in a small room such as a classroom. In drama it's in front of an audience in an auditorium.

I'll go drama , if it was between the two .. because you can PRETEND to be somebody else and use them to freign confidence ...
I was the same until I had to do some spruiking for a shop I worked for ,,, When the micorphone was in my hand it was like I was another person .. then when your confidence builds... join the debating team .. incidently my daughter does both.

If you are a natural person you should try cognitive behavioral therapy. It was the only thing that has helped me with my horrible health anxiety. Read here https://tr.im/AnxietyTreatment
Your thinking determines your quality of life. Your thinking is what causes you these feelings:
Anxious, fearful, stressed or depressed
Constantly worried, or angry about something that is happening in your life
Struggling to overcome obsessive and negative thoughts.
If you change your thinking, you will change your life. This is the basic idea behind CBT for anxiety. The Cognitive part is where you learn nee methods and ways to change your same old habits and thinking patterns. If you keep thinking and expecting the worst – You will continue to suffer.

I wouldn't call her cr8zy. I think her answer is right on the money.
In Drama, you can PRETEND to be whoever you want.... and you never have to be yourself, and you never have to actually overcome being shy.
In Debate, you will push yourself to show YOU to others.
