I'd like to get a summer job working at a bookstore, but I've never seen anyone as young as me working in one...

It depends on the company. Some places do not want to hire anyone under the age of 18 because there are so many rules and regulations. During the summer those rules become null and void, but since the company already has the policy in place your kind of out of luck. If you really want to work in a book store, my suggestion is to find an independent bookstore who doesn't have to deal with corporate rules

Possibly, but probably not. There are too many restrictions on 16 year olds. You could try a smaller locally owned bookstore in your area.

Best bet is to go in and ask.

It depends on the legal age you can work in the city where you live. Ask your parents to call Borders and ask them if you are old enough to work at the store.
