Busy with jobs and family priorities, are the main reasons why people do not vote. They left the choice for others to vote.

VOTE for your choice as US President on my 360 degrees blog and know who will be voted by the people.

I think there are many reasons why people don't vote. Some have been mentioned in other answers but I feel the primary reason is candidates do not provide accurate and detailed information on their positions. If a voter cannot determine how a candidate stands on issues important to them, they cannot determine who should get their vote.

I feel it is important to vote and if you cannot determine a candidate's position it makes it difficult to decide. In the case of those running for re-election I would look at their record and if they have been doing a good job I would continue to vote for them. I vote based on the individual and not the party affiliation.

There usually are many issues or actions on the ballot in most cases. I do not vote for anyone that I do not know enough about. I do however vote on issues that are covered in the news. I decide how I feel on an issue and vote yes or no.

Another reason why some people may not vote is that the language in ballots on issues may be unclear as to how to vote yes or no on an issue. Sometimes voting yes if voting against an issue and voting no is voting for it. This is wrong but it can turn people off by giving them the impression that the ballots are intentionally trying to confuse the voter.

Laziness, apathy. Most people I don't think know enough about....pretty much anything to make an intelligent decision anyway. They are too busy worrying about what Paris Hilton has done lately.

People that make the excuse, the two parties are the same, are just falling in line like cattle to the slaughter....which is what THEY want you to think.

You can't change a nation over night or even over one election. But to let your gov't be decided by others and to not exercise your right to vote is a really bad thing. Why do you think the US gov't is so careful to not upset the religious-right? Because they ALL make sure to go out and vote.

We should all be greatful that we get the right to vote....even if our politicians are self-serving pigs. What ever happened to leaders like Churchill, Kennedy and Lincoln? Voter apathy is the main culprit.

Most people simply don't care. Sad, but true.
Plus, many that do care can't afford to take time off of work to go vote. That alone is reason enough for us to have elections on weekends. I'd being willing to bet that voter turn out would jump to record highs if the election was held on a Saturday.

When the election appears to be a foregone conclusion, people are not interested in standing in a line for up to 6 hours to cast a single vote.
