x - 2y = -15
4x + 3y = -16
x = 2y - 15
4(2y - 15) + 3y = -16
8y - 60 + 3y = -16
11y = 44
y = 4
x = 2*4 - 15
x = - 7
(x,y) = (-7,4)

From the first equation you get x=2y-15 substituting in the second you have 4(2y-15)+3y=-16 wich leads to 8y-60+3y=-16 and finally 11y=44 so y=4 and substitution again on the first equation gives x=-15+8=-7

GIVEN:

x - 2y = -15

EQUATE FOR X:

x = -15 + 2y

OR

x = 2y - 15

THEREFORE, SUBSTITUTE X TO SOLVE Y:

4x + 3y = -16

4 (2y - 15) + 3y = -16

8y - 16 + 3y = -16

11y - 60 = -16

11y = -16 + 60

11y = 44

11y/11 = 44/11

y = 4

SOLVE FOR X:

x - 2y = -15

x - 2(4) = -15

x - 8 = -15

x = -15 + 8

x = -7

Can do this several ways. I chose to solve for x on the first equation.

x=2y-15

Then you can substitute it into the second equation

4(2y-15)+3y=-16

Distribute

8y-60+3y=-16

Combine like terms

11y-60=-16

Add the 60 to both sides

11y=44

Divide the 11

y=4

Now you know what y is. Substitute it into one equation.

4x+3(4)=-16

4x+12=-16

4x=-28

x=-7

x = 2y - 15
8y - 60 + 3y = - 16
11y = 44
y = 4
x - 8 = - 15
x = - 7
Solotion is x = - 7 , y = 4
