Your question honestly doesnt make too much sense to me. I have been a professional piercer for 6 years and your age, depending on laws in your area do not matter how much you can stretch your ears. I would say a 2 gauge is hard to get back down to normal, and I wouldnt recommend stretching more than once every 2-3 months or so. Please go to a well-known proffesional and ask these questions. By asking about "the point of no return" it doesnt seem like you are ready to do it.

I am not an experienced piercer myself, but doing my own ears, and frequently going to watch people get pierced etc etc...
your age doesnt matter as to how far you can stretch your ear, and i have my ears at 1/2 inch, and if it is something you don't think youll like when your older, i suggest you dont do it, i personally love gauged earlobes, and i plan to get mine much bigger, in time also stretching my septum, some people like different stuff.
but if you dont think you will like it, or are worried about it shrinking back i suggest you dont even bother because after 2g, i really dont think it will, mine havent, and oh well, ill just be an old guy with big lobes, no biggie :)

My boyfriend had his ears gauged to 2 and they are still closing 4 years later. They've shrunk a little but the holes are still big.
Also, I have to throw in my opinion: I think gauged ears look pretty stupid.

my brother just had his surgically sewn back together, he had them stretched for a long time and they just really never closed back to normal. i think its a really bad idea and it smells like rotting flesh during the process to.

they won't shrink back. unless you want to have saggy wrinkly ears when you're older, which i can't imagine why anybody would want that, don't do it.
