As others have said, there is no one perfect food. Discus like all fish need a variety in their diet. I like all of the suggestions about for supplemental foods but do disagree with the food recipe presented above. Fish are best served by getting their proteins from other cold blooded animals like fish ,worms and insects. It is best to avoid warm blooded animals as a source of food for fishes due to the amino acid balance.

RE:
What is the best food to feed Discus fish?
We have been giving them bloodworms for a treat but it seems they can't stop craving them.

Bloodworm are ok but I'd be giving them only once a week, Beefheart is good also once a week and more often if your growing them on, and is a handy food for introducing worming tablets (if you have wild fish with them).
Otherwise flake food or slow sinking pellets which are specifically made for discus.
They will eventually take almost anything you present them once they know thats what your going to do.

You could try these things :
* special discus granulate
* "But even this 'special' discus food should not be the main food for discus fish. It is also important to feed your discus several times a day, best with different types of food. All the food I use for my discus fish, and for the other species as well, are frozen blister packages. Be sure to let them defrost before feeding them.
I give my discus Bloodworms, they like those a lot, artemia, beef heart and daphnia, and occasionally white and black mosquito larvae."
* Here's a food recipe from a discus hatchery : )
"Our Discus Food Recipe
1. 350 pounds of turkey hearts
2. 150 pounds of turkey livers
3. 100 pounds of peeled shrimp
4. 50 pounds of fish fillets (non oily fish)
5. 32 pounds of green beans or peas (food for plecos)
6. 20 pounds of fish flake food (to help bind food)
7. 10 pounds of oatmeal
lol okay this is a pretty big recipe : o
* Thaw all frozen ingredients to remove water and blood.
* Cook the hearts, liver, fish and shrimp
* Grind the hearts, liver, fish and shrimp
* Mix all the ingredients together
* Grind the final mixture and put into plastic bags. Flatten mixture in bags to remove air and then store in freezer.
* Thaw before feeding to your discus.
Other Recommended Foods for your Discus
1. Frozen Hikari Blood Worms
2. Tetra Bits (soak in water for a few minutes before feeding)
3. Frozen or Live Adult Brine Shrimp
4. Mosquito Larvae
5. Daphnia (great for small fry)
6. White Worms
7. Mysis Shrimp
8. Chopped up Red Worms
9. Glass Worms
A beef-turkey heart/fish/shrimp mixture should be the main diet of your discus. Use other recommended foods as a supplement to vary your fishes diet. Try to avoid feeding freeze-dried foods or flake foods as their main diet if you really want your discus to grow. "

Simply put, a variety of different food sources.
That way the fish has a spectrum of different sources that can offer the fish vitamins and minerals.
There isn’t just one type.
