"Women Who Love Too Much." I used to idolize my husband and second guess my decisions and actions all the time for fear of being harshly judged by him and not living up to his expectations. After reading this book, about 12 years into the marriage, I changed drastically. It helped me see that I was worthy. I started being true to myself and sticking up for myself. It took several years for my husband to get used to the "new" me, but we are better for it today. Married 31 years and very, very happy.

Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson, M.D.
I know it sounds like a silly little kid book. It is little (less than 100) pages, but it isn't silly at all. It's a story of interpretation and you can pull out of it different concepts with regard to "change".
I had to read it as part of one of my business organization classes, but it's more than just viewing and handling change in business because life is all about changes and trying to make your way through a maze of different passages.

Adversity quotient
The author argues that one of the most important factors in sucess is the way one deals with adversity. The author claims that his theory is based on psychological studies. And I agree with his theory.
And I guss this book changed the way I deal with adversity.

I've read a lot of self help books. "The Rules" helps with social/dating issues.
To answer your question, when I read "Gone with the Wind" as a teenager, I decided to be like the character Melanie, because she remained kind and loving , no matter how it seemed someone was acting towards her.. and I feel this has helped me in my life, to be this way...
