To most people, happiness means diverting one's attention from the hard questions. Inmates on death row can find happiness in a card game - it just means busyness that prevents thinking about what is to come.

If happiness/busyness is gone, you have to think and that is maddening. The inevitability of our own deaths, the pointlessness of life; all maddening questions.

Find the difference between happiness and joy. Joy happens when those maddening questions are answered and happiness is not just diversion.
