I get horrible cramps every month, the first two or three days, I vomit and get a fever, I also get very shaky, I've had to miss work school events it really interferes with my life, I have been getting bad cramps since I first got my period when I was 12, I am now 17 and I'm sick of getting it, now that my mom has past it's been even harder cause my dad doesn't understand and my sister doesn't get bad cramps, everyone says I should go to the obgyn but I'm very embarrassed I'm pretty shy when it comes to my body especially down there and idk what they will do, will they just look? I shave down there but it never looks like perfect, I know they won't be judging me but still, I guess I'm just being a fool but who wants to have some doctor looking down there.
Also, if they ask me if I want to take birth control, are there bad side effects will it make me gain weight?

I'd suggest going - try finding a women's clinic with women doctors - they pamper you a little and make you feel more comfortable. You need to figure out what is causing you to get so sick on your pregnancy. Birth Control shouldn't make you feel like you already do. It should help - but only a doctor can really determine if you even need that.

honey...please don't put off going to the doctor...no matter how embarrassed you might be. i was too embarrassed to talk about such things, even to my own mother when i was your age. i didn't have alot of cramps, but i did have very heavy periods. i didn't go to an obgyn until i was around 20 or so. i am 39 now and do not have any kids. i will always believe that if i had of gotten over my embarrassement maybe i would have children. i'm not saying that's the only reason i don't have children, but i think that i may have been having some problems that were ignored. an obgyn has seen it all. it's just another day for them. it's uncomfortable and a little embarrassing for someone to be "all up in your business" like that, but you MUST do it. something could seriously be wrong. let's hope not, but get up on that table, take your mind to a happy place, and let the doctor do what he or she, needs to do. don't wait too long. i'm sure you'll get some other answers as to what they will do during an exam, but if not here's a site you might check out.
www.kidshealth.org. just click on the teens site icon then type in pelvic exams in the search field. everything on that page has alot of information, especially the #2 question. check it out.
also, if you are sexually active it is best to get on the pill. it's better than the alternative, an unwanted pregnancy. so what if you gain just a little weight. it probably wouldn't amount to much.
good luck and i hope everything turns out ok for you.

Think of it like this. If a gynecologist sees 30 patients every day, for 5 days a week, that's 150 vaginas every week. Do you really think that they will remember yours over anyone elses? You can choose to have a female physician, if you would be more comfortable. The doctor may not even do an exam, unless you are sexually active, or if a disease process is suspected.
If you do need an exam, it's not that bad. I've been getting them since I was 13. The doctor will explain everything and make it as comfortable as possible.
Birth control pills won't make you gain weight. The shot, depo-provera, has some reports of weight gain. But most of the side effects from the pill are minimal and are resolved with time. Besides, if your period is this bad, the only direction you can go is up.

The first time you go can be stressful. You might consider a few things before you go.
1. Would you feel more comfortable with a female or male Dr? For my exam I saw a woman Dr and I'm glad I did. I've had 3 kids since then so I don't much care anymore, but I was a virgin and very self conscience .
2. Consider going to see a Dr who does the interview, questions and answer part of the visit in an office(desk and chairs) setting and the exam in a separate room. This may help with you comfort a great deal.
There could be may things that you need help with, and birth control pills may not be the answer, but if they are take them weight gain or not, it is not worth 5 extra vanity pounds to suffer like you do.
Be brave.

If you are not sexually active they might not even do a pelvic exam. I t is slightly uncomfortable but really not that bad. Find a female ob/gyn. You can see a regular doctor if not, tell them what's going on. They may end up referring you to the obgyn anyway but they might not have to. If they do recommend birth control pills, then yes there can be side-effects but many women don't. Some may make you gain weight but some don't. They will likely give you a very lose dose pill which is less likely to have side effects. If you start taking it and you have problems the doctor can try a different one or you can go off it and seek another form of treatment. Everyone is embarrassed the first time they go to the gyno but they will help you through it. Tell them it's your first time and your a little scared.

I was the same way, and I put off visiting the obgyn until i was 20. When you make your appt. tell them that you want to go on birth control and need a well woman exam.
The doctor will talk with you about birth control and it side effects and stuff. Then they ask you to lie back and put your feet in the stirrups. They will take a scraping of cells from your cervix, it doesnt hurt, as well as check your ovaries to make sure that everything is ok. Its over really quick and its really not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. When i say this understand that i was so nervous that i was almost sick that day. I am an increadably private person and it was horrifying to think of that, but it was really easy.
And no birth control doesnt make you gain weight. Just eat sensably.

I had to see the ob/gyn for the first time when I was 14 for the exact same reasons. I threw up, got severe cramps, ran a fever, got diarrhea, everything went nuts for about 2 to 3 days each month. At the time I had never been naked before a st anger before but his nurse was super nice about it. They were the ones that suggested that I go on birth control which helped a lot but not completely.
Yes, it is possible to gain weight, however, I did not. My daughter on the other hand started her birth control pills at 15 and lost weight.
See the doctor, there is no need to suffer as much as you do.

You have been going through every month for 5 years? You poor dear! Regardless of your embarrassment, you need to go see a doctor. Your symptoms are way to extreme and you need some help.
When I call the GYN's office, I would explain that you are very shy about being poked and prodded at and that you would like to see a female doctor or nurse if possible, that might help alleviate some of your tension. I know at my GYN's office they have 2 female doctors, 2 male doctors and a OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner. My daughter sees the Nurse Practitioner and likes her a lot. Don't worry about your bottom, they have seen everything, from tattoos, to piercings to infections to trauma from assaults, so your bad shave job is the least of their problem!
As far as birth control, yes, some can make you gain weight. Just ask the nurse or doctor for the one that will have the least side effects.
Good luck and I hope you are feeling better soon.

It's a piece of cake after your first few times. I can actually look my doctor in the eye after he's finished down there. You get used to it after going so often. And about it never looking perfect, I don't think doctors really judge how perfect it looks (i hope not). If they're not pervs they should know that they have a job to do and it's just that, a job. Just relax. You have nothing to be ashamed or embarassed about. Love your....special area. :-) And birth control can have different side effects for different people. Some gain weight with them, I didn't. The best thing to do is try it out. good luck sweets.

It sounds like you're pretty miserable. You might wish to find a female OB/GYN so that the embarrasment might be alleviated. No one wants to have a doctor do an exam there but it's part of what women have to endure. The trade-off is that women are generally acknowledged to be smarter and more compassionate than men. You will have to go to an OB/GYN before too long, so work on gathering up your courage and know that it's your right to access good health care.
Also, my daughter has really bad cramps and has found some relief by regularly taken a soy estrogen complex. Around here it's called Estroven, but it might be called something different where you live. You could go to your local health food grocery and talk to one of the people there - they can probably help you with your problem.

Some birth control does, but only a couple pounds. As a female, you're kind of stuck here. At some point in your life, you will have to see a GYN, and it sounds like you should go sooner rather than later.
It isn't so bad, though. When I was your age, I was pretty embarrassed. It helped knowing what would happen, and having a female doctor, though.
If you scroll just past the halfway mark on this link, it will tell you exactly what this kind of exam entails. Though it's intended for your parent, it's pretty informative.
