Followup: A year ago, the President of Virginia Tech was saying how banning the legal carry of firearms by concealed carry permit holders made the students "feel" safer. Did it make them "feel" safer while actually exposing them to greater danger?

Concealed carry by permitted gun owners is a deterrent to crime. The criminals are going to find a way to get the guns whether or not they are illegal.

Firearms make the populace safer overall.

Yes you can argue the are almost no gun deaths in some countries. Those are countries that ban ownership. Doesn't mean crime rate is down. They just found another way to kill. England either has or is considering laws for kitchen butcher knives and actually want to ban them unless you are a Chef since they are not needed in the home.

If the method of killing is the only thing changed by banning guns, then the crime rate will never been down.

Gun control has no effect on crime (other than increasing its probability), and leaves individuals, the states, and the country as a whole vulnerable to any and all criminal activity, tyranny, and oppression.

Preserve and protect the 2nd Amendment.

Crime rates are far more correlated to the economy than to gun control laws. If you want to lower gun crime, than enact policies for economic expansion.

You are mistaken. Research shows that allowing law abiding citizens the means with which to protect themselves results in lower crime rates.

Almost every answer I read here makes the point that criminals will obtain guns regardless of gun control laws. (Duh - isn't that why we call them "criminals"?!) Funny, though, that we have literally thousands of gun control laws on the books, yet all we ever hear are the opinions of the FEW who believe gun control actually saves? Can you say b.s. lying lib media?

Well Bambi. Just because a gun killed your mother in the forest, doesn't mean we should ban them.

I have guns in my house. Most people in this area do. Criminals know this. You never hear of someone breaking into someones home when they are there. Doesn't happen.

In England there are practically no gun-related deaths. So basically I think that "recent research" was completely wrong. It's super easy to scew results from studies anyway and what "research" are you referring to? Please give us a reference to go on.
