They're looking for a large number of extras for a crowd scene. We're not a big movie town, and they don't usually do big crowds. There was only about 10 days notice, and no one in town does headshots - not like I have a huge resume anyway, just been an extra in an indie film once. So do I really need it, or just a photo with contact info attached? I've heard (in looking online) that a generic extra generally doesn't need a headshot.

You generally do not need a headshot for extra work. Most extra agencies will just take a polaroid of you for their files. If you already had headshots, then it would be great to use them for extra work as well, but you do not need professional headshots if you do not plan on pursuing principal roles. Good luck (and don't forget to take something to read- there's a lot of waiting around.)

Headshots are a good resource to have especially if you're into the acting scene. It also let's the auditioner know you're serious about this kind of job. A headshot is easy to get especially if funding is low. If you have a digital camera and a place where the background is easy on the eye, you can do your own professional headshot. But if you're not that serious about making acting your career, just do a polaroid. Yeah, polaroid...I'm old fashioned, lol.

It is very important that if you do not have a Headshot that the photo you submit is professional, clean, no overly smiley and commercially, not crowded in the background, no eye grabbing back ground...You need to be the focus of the picture....

NO, just a nice photo of you. a headshot would be great because it'll show you're a professional, but not required at all for a gig as an extra in an indie film.

If the Casting Call did NOT request headshots or résumé, you should be okay.

If your actor friends are going to the audition, ask what they intend to do.

To be on the safe side, always have a photo/résumé with you, with contact info attached.

don't bring in a picture of you on a beach, that would be unprofessional, bring in headshots even if they didn't ask for it
