OK, this is a bit of a strange question. I really just want opinions from different interesting perspectives. What exactly causes "atmosphere"? I mean when it is Saturday night and you are 18 years old, and you are ready to have fun, there is that feeling in the air....what causes that? Or how would you explain it? Or as an adult, when something is bothering my wife I can tell, without verbal indications. There is just something in the air. Please give any explanation you may have!

I think that the energies from all the people contribute to the atmosphere. If someone is giving off body language to show that they are excited, the atmosphere becomes more energetic and excited. If someone is depressed or cranky, the atmosphere is affected by their expressions and what they say.

If the 18yo is among friends, the "feeling in the air" is the body language and perhaps conversation of the group. If he's on his own, the air is in his head. (Pardon the wretched pun.)
Some fiction writers indicate, or even explicitly claim, that there's something real in the environment causing more to "atmosphere"; I don't think so.
In the second case, you're reading your wife's body language along with other physical cues--anything from where the newspaper's been left to what station is playing on the radio to what she smells like, depending on her habits you've learned so far.
P.S. If telepathy and/or precognition are real, factor them in, too.

An atmosphere is a layer of gases that may surround a material body of sufficient mass.[1] The gases are attracted by the gravity of the body, and are retained for a longer duration if gravity is high and the atmosphere's temperature is low. Some planets consist mainly of various gases, and thus have very deep atmospheres

I think it's not in the atmosphere.. It's more on your relationship with others. Like, when you're so close to each other, there is this kind of ESP.. hehehe, and about teens wanting to go out during weekends, I think its caused by hormones.. haha

i think your feelings just become more intune. I cant give you some scientific answer but from experience, i really think you grow to know your surroundings. You learn people, you learn from experiences to know a good or bad situation. The same way you learn right from wrong.

Sorry if this makes no sense. It's making tons of sense in my head though!

As for the first part of your question I would say that the young Lad is looking to spend the evening with someone with a higher pitched voice than his.

As for the second part of your question I would have one thing to say to the husband "I hope you saved the baby crib".
