Why are movies so unentertaining now and why do they cost so much to make?

because the movies aren't about good acting or the ability to tell a great story anymore, they are all about special effects, who can be most realistically bloody, or who can make the most realistic monster, or who can be just the dumbest person on the planet. It isn't about art anymore.
