I don't think people who cannot afford children should be having them.
Why do these people think they are OWED medical care and food stamps for having a child. Entitlements have to stop and we NEED to be promoting a work ethic in this society.

It also reflects the fact that Hispanics — the group most likely to be poor and least likely to have private health insurance — are having more babies than any other group in Arizona.
The trend would continue upward under an Arizona Senate budget proposal that would allow more women to qualify for prenatal care through the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System.
AHCCCS paid for 53,121 baby deliveries last year, about 52 percent of the state's 102,042 births, continuing a trend that started in 2003.

You can't win with liberals, either they want to have lots of kids for more welfare, or they want to kill the kids. Go figure

You know, I'm confused. I just answered another one of your "questions" where you complain about Planned Parenthood. But after reading this "question" I guess what you're saying is it's okay to control the infant population so long as those infants are poor and Hispanic.

So if it's a white baby from a middle-to-upper class white teenager who is in no way prepared for motherhood we should save it but if the baby's mother is poor and has a last name ending in the letters E and Z we should Electrolux that sucker before it becomes a burden on us hard-working, tax-paying, law-abiding white folk.

Don't you live in Wisconsin? How exactly does poor Hispanics in Arizona having babies affect you personally? I mean, other than the fact that you hate anyone who isn't white, Republican and conservative?

Do you even have the slightest idea how much of a raging racist you sound like? Careful... that burning cross might scald your hand.

The article says NOTHING about ethnicity in it's statistic but rather refers to income levels and the fact that many so-called "middle class" couples are involved because insurance rates are too high for them to purchase individually.

Your inference that Hispanics are primarily responsible is bigotted and untrue. Unless you can site your source for the information, you are just blowing wind.

Did you know in your state that over 10% off ALL teenage girls between the age of 15-19 give birth every year?

How about blaming unwed teenage mothers for the problem....makes as much sense.

#1 If people waited until they felt they could "afford to have babies, there would be a lot less children to folks of all incomes!

#2. Why would Hispanics be the group most likely to be poor? That is a racist statement. I suppose Gonzales is poor? Jimmy Smits?? J-Lo??? Christina Agiulerra?? (Just to name a few....)

#3. Would you rather poor people just quit procreating? My catechism teacher told me that people should have as many children as they can, because "God will provide. And He will not give them more than they can handle." (BTW, that's about the time I stopped going to Catholic education classes; I thought that statement was ridiculous, but not for the same reasons that you give.)

well, actually, medical care ought to be free to all folks.

i agree that people who can't afford babies shouldn't have them. there are so many people who put their infants in day care - which is very damaging to them. thing is, it's all middle class people doing this - the more a man makes, the more likely his wife is to hire someone else to raise their children.

it's akin to slave owners saying that it's okay for them to own slaves, otherwise it would hurt them economically.

SO, it's all a very strange situation.
I really don't think 'these people' believe they are owed medical care - however, even in mexico, most people have access to free medical care.

And, you seem very confused - the mexicans and other latin immigrants do have a work ethic - they work very very hard for very little money.

It seems like the situation is much more complicated than the little boxes you wish to put things in.

I found the whole article very disturbing--especially the comment that AZ is one of 26 states with programs like this, and tha AZ's program is much stricter.

This paragraph also gave me pause...
"But on his construction worker's pay, insurance is unaffordable — at least for now, they said. And besides, his wife said, AHCCCS is "a very good program" that provides good service."
WHY when they know they can get free prenatal healthcare and free health care for the delivery, WHHHYYYY would anyone who COULD qualify for this program opt to pay for those expenses themselves?!?!

Did you also know that AZ ranks as 49th in education? Makes sense when you put it all together right.
And a lot of those 50% are not even legal.

However, they are increasing the wage limit for AHCCCS so more can qualify for it and that it will soon a "model" for state run health care.

That is the responsibility of the Catholic Church.

If the church wants to use its influence to make people reproduce then it should accept parental responsibility and pay for the health care and education of all the new 'little' catholics.

Arizona also came in 50th in the most recent Smart State Award, and I remember one poll on child care in which we ranked 51st – we were behind Puerto Rico.

You may think that, but that is the oppositie of what happens in the real world. Poor uneducated people have the highest birth rate. Educated people tend to have less children and put it off until later in their lives.

Yes, and the worst part is when our wonderful governor goes south of the border and panders to Mexican politicians. Next thing that will happen is a coyote gang shooting at another coyote gang to get their loot will wipe out a few civilians in the crossfire. I can't wait to hear the spin when that happens. Not if, when.
