No, it really is not weird. Lacking hands to use for things, they use their feet. In nature, animals lie down on the ground. If you have ever done so, you will find that making a bed by trampling the grass, etc., makes for a more comfortable...and warmer...bed.
That's all it is: they are making their bed.

The most logical explanation I've heard is that they are imitating what they would do in the wild. Turning in circles would trample down the grass where they were lying to make it less prickly and more comfortable.

Hey I was wondering about that to,my dog does that right before he sleeps. Well my guess is that they probably want to find the perfect spot to lay in so that they will feel comfortable.

I'm pretty sure they are taking one last look around.I mean,if you fell asleep unaware there was a creature waiting to kill you while in a deep sleep that would really suck. They must be watching for predators awaiting their nap. That or they are really picky about were they sleep, maybe they are just softening the ground.

cryssi, why the heck are you answering in here if you never know?

anyway, i think it's just to "make" a bed for themselves. my dog does it on a blanket. he also "fluffs" it with his teeth and paws beforehand as well.
