I've never felt this way. I always thought of myself as a lifelong liberal. I told several good friends to immediatlely kill me if I became conservative....

I'm 18, and going to university next year. I don't want to take out student loans that will haunt me later in life so I got a full time summer job. But that wasn't enough money, so I got a second job part-time. I now work a total of 60 hours a week (hardly the lazy liberal). Last time I got my paystub, I got enraged at the taxes on it!! I mean I have s*** to pay for!!!

Also, after hanging our in the Ethics section, maybe capital punishment is on to something.....perphaps abortion really is murder....

With my time-consuming jobs I no longer have time to smoke pot. I save all my money, hardly spending any on the useless stuff I used to. I no longer give quarters to the homeless, and constantly complain about the price of gas....

OMG, I think I might be becoming conservative....

What can I do about this???
Please Help

LOL

This is not you becoming a conservative..this is you finding out what economy is all about.

LOL

Look, conservatives want you to have freedom in your business but they want to control your morals. Thats why its always the religious right question that are bought up..things like abortion etc.

Liberals, on the other hand, want you to have freedom of your morals but they want to control your business. Thats why they always want to raise taxes etc.

Libertarians - they want you to have freedom of both your morals and your business and they want to keep government out of your personal life.

You use to say you were liberal because you wanted the moral freedom (that was becuase you didnt have to work for anything), now you think you are becoming conservative because you want your business freedom....LOL...you can have them both...you just have to become a libertarian.

Dont knock it until you look into it...they can solve all your problems....they believe in the freedom of choice of everything so long as you dont use force or fraud to get it.

Well going to work does not make one a conservative, it just shows you have a good work ethic and a need to not be buried in student loans. I never took any of those, they are deathtraps IMO.

Not smoking pot? I know some conservatives who smoke weed and do heroin. Ideology does not influence drug use. That's good that you're quitting, it's a waste of time and money, just like cigarettes.

Saving money does mean you are becoming conservative in the economical sense, which actually does make sense, it means you are becoming responsible for your earnings.
But I don't think you should just stop giving to the homeless, they have nothing and contrary to what some may have told you, most of them are not "lazy". Many of them can't work due to some disability, many are also are war vets who couldn't find work after they came home.

BTW I am a liberal and I do support the death penalty.

You are probably leaning slightly to the right, but I don't think it's something to be too worried about.

Oh, and just to let you know, EVERYONE is complaining about gas prices!

The conservatives have your body and are trying to reattach your mind to the matrix. Wake up Neo. I believe you are The One. Only you can end this war. LOL.
Seriously, don't worry about your changing feelings. We all experience and see things that affect our perspective. Just do the best you can and be true to yourself wherever that takes you. I am liberal but thats based on my life experiences. Your life may take you into a different direction and thats okay. Its not a matter of genius or education level. Its just a perspective. There is room for all views in this land we call America.

don't get a job. don't get an education. do no longer marry. don't have young little ones. do no longer pay your charges. do no longer bathe or shave. do no longer advance your skills. do no longer benefit awareness out of your blunders. you will stay Liberal. No concerns. Do any of the above, and you will initiate understand-how the cost of being Conservative. which you would be able to no longer stay life in a fantasy worldwide of ways you like issues have been. all of them carry reality sharply into concentration and the end result's Conservativism.

And your concerns about becoming conservative are...
That you won't smoke pot anymore (illegal AND bad for you)?
That you'll decide it's wrong to murder innocent babies?
That you will stop wasting your money and start saving for a future?
That you'll encourage those around you to take responsibility for their own lives and circumstances?
That maybe you will recognize all of the liberal indoctrination you've received to date, and are likely to keep receiving in college?
Congrats! You're becoming an adult, and insodoing, a conservative too! Talk about a reason to celebrate! Now go register with the young republicans on your campus and meet a great woman with morals AND a brain!

You are just becoming fiscally responsible, not necessarily a political conservative. It is only reasonable to work two jobs if you don't want to take out loans (as a graduate student I fully understand your desire not to loan money). You have to prioritize your time and money in the real world. You are realizing that paying for your education is more important than wasting time with pot or spending money on stuff you don't need. Thanks for being a responsible member of society.

I have a feeling that you had some conceptions of what a conservative really was before posting this on YA. No one obviously plans to be a liberal, but are you willing to change your perspective on life and not be so damn selfish?

I'm 18. I have a steady job and will be paying $$$ for college. Happy trails.

I went through that same phase. Then after I graduated college and left my ivory tower and saw the suffering in the world and learned to empathize with them, I switched back to my more moderate democrat side. Being a democrat (I wouldn't say I'm very liberal but still a democrat) doesn't mean that you have to be lazy and like to pay your taxes. Don't ever feel that you need to stay within your political party. If your opinions change, you can change parties. Just remember that.

Don't worry, change is both scary and a good thing. After you get into the swing of things at the university, you'll be quickly swept away, back into the B.S. liberal mindset of your professors -- all of whom have spent entirely too much time in academia and too little time facing reality.

It's the truth. You turn a liberal into a conservative by making them get a job, move out on their own, pay their own way and pay taxes.
