Bush proposes to build a "shield" for Europe. Why isn't the European Union building a shield? Is this a United States initiative or a NATO initiative? It seems clear that this is a move that will draw Europe into the War on Terror while, sadly, creating a different kind of opponent in the form of Russia and perhaps China. Still, I really don't know why the USA is financing this seemingly without the financial support of the European Union. What's the story?

This has nothing to do with the EU. The EU is not a military alliance. It would never be allowed to spend money on this by the European Parliament.

This is the US positioning a missile shield to protect its own interests. Most citizens in these countries don't want this in the first place. These countries governments, i.e. The Czech Republic and Poland are cozying up to the USA while their citizens, particularly where this anti ballistic missiles base are being set up are livid.

As usual someone in Europe squeaked and we came running again, with out tax dollars we need here. Bush is spending all our reserves we need for Social Security. Like a child that saves their money for years, only to have Big Brother break into the piggy bank for money for ice cream.

It costs me $882.00 for drugs for my heart and severe arthritis in the degenerative stages. I can barely eat enough to save a soul, I've worked hard all my life (47 years) and save as much as possible.
Now, with the Government insurance I can't afford, I missed by three dollars, enough so, that I can't get my needed prescriptions and, I can't get help because I make to much on Social Security, so, it's a catch 22 situation for me and others like me.

In stead of helping us, here in America, our pres is tossing money away on wars, funding missile programs, space ships to mars and ? while we here at home need help.
Why don't the European Union help their own Countries, why don't they start helping themselves over there and, leave us alone? why, why.

i think of we are doing it always to guard Europe. i don't comprehend why we could prefer to establish a missile preserve in Poland to guard ourselves from Iran. Why can't we in basic terms positioned a missile preserve over the mainland, Alaska and Hawaii?

Because in order for your missile shield to be effective you will need to have missiles in european countries. Think of it this way if the missiles are shot down over europe all that radiation will fall on them. Hopefully France but not the UK as thats where i live.

He is basically just a suck up to the rest of the world and could truly care less about our own country and the fact we have people here that could use that money. I think he wants to do that too so not all the world hates him over Iraq.

1) Other countries love spending our money.
2)Our current president was born a millionaire (loves to spend money).
3) He's an idiot and and either can't face the fact that we are broke and that what is left should be for us (Americans) or is too proud to face reality.

Because THEY don't have the money to throw away- that we do. This is Bush's idea, and like most of his other "idea's"- we're going to end up "paying" for it...
