What is the monetary value of the stray dog? It depends on this factor. If the value of the such a dog is Rs10/- or more one can face punishment as provide under section 428 of the Indian penal Code:- Whoever commits mischief by killing, poisoning, maiming or
rendering useless any animals or animal of the value of the ten rupees
or upwards, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description
for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.
If the value of the stray dog is more then Rs50/- the person can face punishment as provided under section 429 IPC as Whoever commits mischief by
killing, poisoning, maiming or rendering useless, any elephant, camel,
horse, mule, buffalo, bull, cow or ox, whatever may be the value
thereof, of any other animal of the value of fifty rupees or upwards,
shall be punished with imprisonment or either description for a term
which may extend to five years, or with fine, or with both.
So next time you want to kill a stray dog first get its value evaluated by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty towards Animals or People for Animals or any such organization dealing with such stray dogs otherwise I have told you the punishment available for such heinous crime.

Though it is not punishable under Indian Court of justice, there are many voluntary agencies which are taking cudgels against killing of stray dogs.

How do you punish stray dogs which lift poor chidren and kill them.How do you punish a stray dog which scares all the children in a locality.One cinema star told that stray dogs must be sterilsed and family planning implmented.These people dont encourage family planning in humans and talk rubbish .Mercy killing for al l mad dogs and mad people.

no idea but i do know some animal control officers have told us if the dog is a bother and destroying your yard..blow it away..seems kinda cruel to me..so we are still putting pepper down and have lodged another complaint with animal control to come get the dog
