For a small hole like that, you can fill it with spackling or drywall joint mud. You can get either at your local hardware store in a small tub. Apply with a putty knife and sand lightly when dry. Paint to match the rest of the wall.

It depends. Is the wall drywall or brick, Concrete or wood.

If drywall, go to any hardware store and ask for a small can of FIX ALL. follow the directions and fill the hole. Match paint The same for brick or concrete.
If its wood you can use any of a dozen compounds that you can match to your wood color. easily done. If you are in the states ask for more info at Home Depot or any hardware store.

As for a quick fix with no expense. Bubble gum. smooth off let dry for a couple of days and use kids crayons to match the color. it works great and the crayons work great for scratches on furniture etc as well.

If the whole is larger than a say the bottom of a coke can, I would suggest buying a metal mesh drywall patch. Peel back enough of the drywall paper (put the patch which is square over the whole and mark out the edges, then cut the paper so its easy to peel off.)

Put a thin coat of DW mud on and put the metal patch in place. Let it dry, lightly sand it and then put more dry wall mud on the patch so it blends in with the existing DW mud.

if it is drywall or plaster, a little drywall mud or spackle, leaving a little hill after you apply it because as it drys the water evaporates and the mound will shrink. You still want a hill there which you can sand smooth and level the next day. Then a dab of paint. Done.

For a small hole putty will do. Pick it up at Home Depot, Lowes or pretty much any hardware store. For bigger holes there are screens you put over the hole first.

If you`re a college student, use toothpaste (white). If you`re a homeowner, use sheetrock compound or a spackling, let it dry, sand it, & paint it.
