Technically, the term african american is applied to a person of african descent living in america. Perhaps it is often used as a way of preventing any insults pertaining to skin color. It makes absolutely no sense for an african american to live in africa, because then they would no longer be american. Unless, of course, an american of african descent moved to africa, in which case he or she would be an american african. In my personal opinion, it is all too confusing. =]

Of course there are, as others have pointed out. Without checking, I'd bet there are probably German-Americans (like my family) living there, too, and most of the other American immigrant types.
But it's interesting to consider that in a sense the country of Liberia is largely populated by African-American Africans. (See http://www.slate.com/id/2085169/ for why I have NOT said "founded by freed slaves," which I though was correct until I read that article!)

The reasons people are called african americans is becuase they were born and raised her but are of African descent. I think it's kinda dumb since everyone that are americans dont hyphemnate their heritages like irish american, polish american, etc........
Why do blacks only do that? Curious......
