Can Red Sox fans feel the Yankees winning the AL East again? That lead is dwindling, that means "goin' fah away" in southie.

To be honest. A little bit. They are starting to hit. With the history of the Sox promising beginnings and late season stumbles I cant say Im not worried at all, but I think we can hold them off.

The Tigers, the Mariners, the Athletics all intend to make a run at the wild card. The Yankees may be 31-31 on Tuesday with exactly 100 games to go. To win the wild card, figure they will need to be 95-67, meaning they would have to go 64-36 in the last 100 games. Can it be done? Sure, but the Red Sox only have to go 55-45 over the same last 100 games, as they are 40-22 for the first 62 games. The Tigers have to go 59-41 over the same period to end up at 95-67. In other words, the Yankees can do it, they are not eliminated, but they will have to crawl past several other competitive teams to get to the wild card or to put on a real surge to catch the Red Sox while the Red Sox play on a very mediocre level.
If the Yankees win the wild card and the Angels have the best record in the AL (or the best record outside of the AL East), the Yankees would have to overcome the only truly immovable object for them over the last 10 years. Fitting that the Yankees, Satan's own, would be overcome by Angels.

Brother in law loves the Yankees so I gotta say go RED SOX!! But honestly the whole evil empire thing is not so true anymore since Boston has to take a quick look in the mirror and realize they are handling their baseball business the same exact way! Both will have 200 million dollar payrolls and buy talent from other teams when need be. It's always a pleasure though when anyone else is able to knock them down a few pegs though! A year or two back I know the Indians knocked them around for a 20 or so nothing win at Yankees staduim and I think the payroll of the Yankees pitchers were higher then the WHOLE payroll of the Indians put together! Fun stuff. But overall 20 plus World Series wins buts Yankees over the Soxs any day of the weak. In the end earning the hardware has to win the debate, not the self pity Boston gets to have after ever loosing year... ohh wait one out of every 80 years or so makes up for it! ;-)

Just wait until the Yankees start playing good teams again...they haven't consistently beat good teams this year so honestly, I am not too worried about the Yankees.

maybe a little to quick to start saying that. they still have the biggest division lead in the league as well as great starting pitching. i think boston will win the divsion with new york coming back to take the wild card. hopefully another great postseason series between them.

Maybe if they BUY another division title. I'm sure Georgey could go out and buy some more pitching and go another 20+ million past the limit for the luxury tax.
