Ronnie James Dio and his traveling circus should go down in everyone's annals of hard rock and heavy metal history
Holy Diver and The Last In Line are sheer classics from the only person who could have followed Ozzy's stint in Black Sabbath

Only a moron would claim that Dio is following in Ozzy's (or anyone else's) footsteps. Dio was singing professionally in acapella and doo-wop groups when Ozzy was nine or ten years old. He was recording with Elf when Black Sabbath was still unknown, and he re-energized a floundering Black Sabbath when the drug-addled loser up front couldn't hack it any longer. Dio also accomplished (then and now) something Ozzy has never been able to do: write his own music and lyrics. It's true, all of Ozzy's stuff has been written by others: go do the research.
But enough about Osbourne. Ronnie James Dio is one of metal's most idiosyncratic, versatile and enduring voices. His pitch, timbre and range have shown no signs of decline over the years, even as the man pushes on well into his sixties. He has fronted three of the greatest bands of all time: Rainbow, Black Sabbath and, of course, Dio. Since you asked about Dio in particular, I will emphasize that their first four studio albums (Holy Diver, The Last in Line, Sacred Heart, Dream Evil) are all essential, with most subsequent albums being of lesser quality but still possessing anywhere from one two four classic tunes apiece. Dio has always managed to work with tremendously skilled guitarists (Vivian Campbell, Craig Goldy, Rowan Robertson, Doug Aldrich, etc), and one of the greatest, in-the-pocket rhythm sections of all time (Jimmy Bain, Vinny Appice).
In addition to being the originator of metal's universal horn sign (nicely pilfered from his Italian heritage), Ronnie James Dio is a consummate professional, a considerate supporter of charities and a gentleman to boot. He does honor to metal's rich and storied history by virtue of strong-willed personality and voice, devoid of chemically-induced antics better left to lesser souls and singers.

Don't like Ronnie James Dio. He was a cool voice, but his songs are not any good. Plus he is a just trying to follow in Ozzy's foot steps, but he couldn't really do it. And that horn thing, he stole that too.

Dio is a rock/metal GOD. Many of his songs are simply legendary. He deserves more recognition than what he receives.
