The ACT includes a math, english, literature, and science portion. You will get a score of 1-36 on each of these portions which will then be averaged to find your score. The national average is about 21 and very few ever obtain a 36. You can not choose the subjects you take on the test. However you can decide whether or not you want to take an essay portion, which you should decide to take--it looks good on college resumes. Anyways, whenever you take your ACT's good luck!

It has been awhile, but as I recall, there were sections on grammar, spelling, vocabulary, general science, and math. The only one you could opt out of was advanced math. Each section is weighted, and the scores are added for a composite of up to 36. You need a 21 to get into any school that does not have open enrollment, a 26 or better to get into most schools, and a 32 or better to be offered any scholarship help usually. There are exceptions, so check it out at any school to which you apply. Also, make sure the school(s) you wish to attend accept the ACT.

The ACT has four mandatory sections: reading, English, math, and science. All are timed and have a set number of questions. You are only able to take the ACT in the format it's offered for everyone. Additionally, there is an optional writing sample, but you should check with the schools to which you're planning to apply to find out if you should take it.

Below is a link to an explanation about the ACT scoring.
