when i went to italy i had the majority of my money in a money belt under my clothes. i then carried about 20 euros in a wallet so when i went to pay for something, no one could see all my money. try not to pull your camera out everywhere - tourist places are ok of course but not little side streets. if you have a back pack, consider putting a padlock on the zips or carry it backwards so it is in front of you and you can put your arms around it.

The best way is to not have a lot on you at any one time. Keep your money in your front pocket, hold your purse away from the street, loop your purse over your shoulder, don't take all your money out at once or don't count your money in public, wear a money belt. Also keep your cash in a different pocket than your credit or ATM card, and don't carry all your credit cards on you leave one back at the hotel room.
