Come on. Was anyone REALLY expecting a neat little package with a bow on it for the ending? It was freaking brilliant, really. I thought the scene where they brokered the deal was amazing and totally surprising. I'm sure we all thought the guy in the diner was the one. He may be. Or not. Of all the predictions, my wife's was the closest. There was a scene at the end of one the earlier episodes where Tony and the fam were having a late supper as they faded to black. She said in the end, it's going to be Tony with his family all together.
I LOVED the way they took care of Phil.

I have to agree with MAC on an earlier post!!!!Obviously other posters in this thread arent very big fans.. the ending ruled and TONY DIED!
In season 1 Tony says to his Doc that "..when you die everything just goes black", and when he went on vacation with Bobby they were talking about how "..when it happens, you dont hear the gunshot, and everything just goes black". We always have music in the ending sequence, not hearing anything was our way of seeing through Tony's eyes that he just died, he didnt hear it, and it just went black.
Also the guy who the fbi said that someone was brought over from out of the country, that was the man who went to the bathroom, and as the title suggests, he was "Made in America" by killing Tony. Last week the ep was called "The Blue Comet", which was the name of the train Bobby was buying, so the title most likely refers to Tonys death, because the other person who killed in the show was already american

I thought something was wrong with my cable. What a wimpy ending. I thought something was going to happen with that dude in the Members Only jacket they kept focusing on. And then Paulie going on about that cat. What the hell was going on there.
The only good part was Phil getting whacked and then the car backing over him and popping his head off. LOL! Wonder if they'll make a Sopranos movie now.

I thought it was a horrible ending. It's one thing if it's a "season finale"; sure, make us wait for a few months. But this was a series finale, and I just wonder what the movie will do. Are they going to mess with us again and make the ending ambiguous? After tonight, I refuse to go to see the film version until it comes out on free cable. I refuse to give money to a corporation that just preys on people's curiosity. I suggest you all boycott the Hollywood studios that are manipulative and vicious in their desire for revenue.

I feel the same way. I thought I was having technical difficulties with my cable box. The greatest show of all time , might of just had the worst ending ever. Maybe there's a movie? I need some answers, I'm pissed!!!!

At first I was pissed that it cut out at the end, but now I am relieved. I didn't want to see Tony, Carmella, Meadow or AJ (okay, maybe AJ) get whacked. I spent the hour tense and heaved a big sigh of relief that I was not a witness to their demise.

I agree 100%. It Boils down to one thing, watching the show for all this time, how have you viewed Tony? Good Guy or Bad guy? David Chase wanted the ending to reveal something about ourselves and how we have our perspectives lined up.
If you viewed Tony as an inherently good guy this whole time, as being justified in his deviousness and killing and being a victim of circumstance with his mother and in the life of the mob because of his father, then you see him with his family, enjoying life after tying up some loose ends. LIFE GOES ON!!
If you have always seen him as bad, a sociopath that is choosing to be bad......and is a villain etc...then you see him dying, getting shot, being part of the mob game that he contributed to. Life ends....black.
Thats why he chose that song, it is dichotomous in nature..Don't stop believing and the song ends at Don't stop....leaving out the believing......
Chase wanted us to choose our own adventure. It is not meant to be one way, it is meant to be both ways for us to choose ouselves as a reflection of who we are....
Brilliant.
