I work in the Ghetto everyday, At a very prestigious hospital in the city of Chicago. I really dont know what your asking so illl just go over the highlights. First is that there is a huge difference between day and night. Daytime is pretty calm and not very dangerous in most ghettos. After the sun goes down is a very different story. People drink and gamble on the streets and very often you can hear the distant echo of a gunshot or of glass breaking. At least thats how it is here in Chicago the murder capitol of the USA in 2005 and 2006. Quite honestly its a sad place cuz crammed in with the arms and drug dealers are good people just trying to survive. The kids there are generally good kids but sometimes have to do things in order to gain respect or even to survive the local gangs. It either join or die in a lot of cases. Its unfortunate cuz its a ripple effect for the rest of there lives. They have to rob or steal to get some money or to not get beat up by other gang members and they get caught in the act and then they go to jail. If they are over 18 then it goes on there record forever and they will be lucky to find a job a Mcdonalds with a crime on there record. Then they have to resort back to crime and it just keeps snowballing with more people getting sucked into the system everyday. Police call prison the revolving door for a reason. A ghetto as you so eloquently put it is a place where the economy, the people and the goverenment have all failed. A place that breeds crime and hate. It breeds suffering and violence, But it also has bred some of the most influential and insightful civil leaders and artists of modern times. A ghetto is a tragedy of the American human experience. With its only saving grace being that it stimulates the right minds in such a way as to change the world.

Not only been there- brought up there- it was post depression- pre-ghetto in name, but living conditions the same- not for the faint of heart, but a real boost to ones' self worth and survival training. And this was prior to guns and drugs problems- must really be a mess now-

I happen to work at the ghetto of my area. I work at a call center on King St E. We have prostitutes, drug dealers, bums, really weird people and lots of cop drive by. I have my smoke break out front of the building and I dress conservatively for work, and at night guys drive up, park and get out to ask me if I need a "ride". Im like what the f***, do I look like a H** to you? It's crazy.
