I am a female teenager, and it will be the first job interview. What would I wear if it would be for an ice cream shop such as Coldstones, or clothing retail stores like Pacsun, Hollister, Forever 21...etc. Do i wear jeans, since the places arent very formal? What are some questions should I be looking out for that the interviewer will ask?

Many places would accept you going to the interview dressed how the employees that currently wok there wear. But for a retail job you can't go wrong with a nice button down top, and either a pair of khaki pants or black pants. I wouldn't ever wear jeans for an interview unless they tell you that to dress that casual. For a job at the places above, I'd dress nice and trendy, but sort of formal.

Since it's a first job some questions they may ask is what can you bring to the job, what are some of your strengths & weaknesses, how do you work in teams, and what do you hope to gain from a job experience. Good luck!!

Dress for success. You obviously are interested in working there so show that by dressing nicely. Do you have a business casual suit? You might be able to borrow something from your mother or another female relative if your sizes are similar. I would never wear jeans even if the attire at the store is jeans. Never wear something that is too revealing. Take pride in yourself. Those that I have interviewed in the past were invited back for a second interview if they presented themselves well.

As for questions, a common question is "where do you see yourself in a year or perhaps even five years" or "why do you feel that you should work here"?

Take care and good luck.

It doesn't matter if the place is formal or not. You want to present yourself as a professional. Not a bum. Wearing jeans and a t-shirt shows that you really don't care if you get the job or not, among other inappropriate things.

My advice would to be wear something other than jeans and a t-shirt, but it doesn't have to be too formal. Inbetween casual and semi-formal.

They will ask you why they should hire you, about your personality--- such as "What would your biggest fault be when dealing with an unsatisfied customer?". They'll be looking for a good emplyee they can trust, and will help keep customers as happy and comfortable as possible.

Even if the place is not formal, you still would dress nice. Like black dress pants and a button down dress shirt would be appropriate, or even if you have a nice matching suit of some sort. Anything but jeans. Never wear jeans to an interview, people do look down on that.

I'd say no to jeans - it's still an interview. Wear nice pants or a casual skirt. To the clothing stores, you could wear something a little more trendy/cute than to other interviews, since you want to show them you know how to look good and know about style.
When you're being interviewed, no matter what the question, be positive, cheerful, and really sell yourself!

You should always dress nicely for a job interview, regardless of where you are interviewing. I don't suggest wearing jeans, I would not hire anyone who walked into my company and applied in jeans. I suggest wearing a dress or nice a nice skirt or pants and a nice shirt.
Dress like you are going to church at a formal service.

They will ask why you want the job
When you can work
How long you plan on working there
What you can bring to the company
They may also ask about you, be prepared to tell them about your academics and extra curricular activities...especially if you are good at them.

Even if the place you wish to work is not formal, you should probably dress nicely anyway. When a prospective employer sees a well-dressed applicant, they assume that they are respectful and responsible. Often times a casually-dressed applicant will be judged (regardless of the reality of the situation) as lazy, disrespectful, sloppy, etc.

Yes, this is a superficial way to judge a person, but employers often take dress into account when deciding whom to hire.

PS - no matter how flat your tummy is, DO NOT LET IT SHOW!

Also, you should expect questions about why you wish to work there, what other work you have done, etc. The employer is trying to judge if you are responsible, and if YOU will benefit THEM. Say you wish to learn how to be a professional in the workplace. Tell them you wish to learn how to deal with responsibility and learn to serve clients efficiently and professionally.

Use the words "professional" , "responsibility" , etc.
Good luck.

For an ice cream type store, you can wear neat and clean jeans with a top that your grandmother would approve of - preferably with sleeves and definitely no "skin" showing anywhere. If you have tattoos, try to cover them with clothing. Wear "sensible" shoes or clean, neat sneakers. No jewelry except very small earrings and a watch. For clothing retail stores, wear something typical of what they sell - but most important to be neat and look like their current sales people look. Clean, neat hair, not too much make-up are always sensible. The person who is going to hire you is probably not a teen so dress "older" than you are - it will make you look responsible. All employers are looking for employees that will always show up on time (at least 5 minutes before the work hours start), pay attention to their work, be anxious to help the customers with a smile and attend to their request. They do not want someone who will call in frequently with absences or expect to be paid for no work. They are looking for reliable, helpful, friendly and competent employees. The interviewer is likely to ask questions that will reflect your interest in having a steady, reliable job that will help them make sales and make money.

I would say don't wear jeans because it is never wrong to be dressed nicer than what they expect! I'd say you can't go wrong with black pants and a button-up shirt or blouse. If you must wear jeans, I would chose a darker color because they always look alot more classy. Don't wear flip flops! Don't wear anything too crazy or too revealing! Not alot of makeup and jewelry. You don't want to distract from your personality!

And always SMILE! That's the best thing to wear! Good luck!

Well, I'm not sure about what questions they'll ask.
But most likely it'll be general, common sense stuff.

As for what to wear...
I'd suggest wearing a dark wash or denim, jeans with holes won't make a very good impression.
Or even khaki.
Then maybe a nice dressier top, and when you pair that with the dark denim it'll look casual but not to the point of looking sloppy.
Then finish it with some nice shoes, flats or something of the sort.
