And how many AIDS funerals have you attended? I knew 85 who died, 8 still alive, 12 AIDS funerals. How about you? Note: I apologize if this question is deemed to be in bad taste.

I presently know over 1000 people who are HIV+

Of the 1000 who are HIV+ 392 are classified as having AIDS

I have been to 527 funerals of AIDS victims

I was at the bedsides of 221 when they died. They had no one else. They had been abandoned by "friends" and "family"

I have seen more deaths from AIDS than most doctors or nurses.

I have been a volunteer in the gay health community for over 25 years.

There is no reason to apologize for this question. Making AIDS personal for every single person in the world should be one of the goals of our society.

I am HIV negative. I am tested every 3 months.

I retired from volunteer work 3 years ago. I simply could take any more.

The sad truth is that more and more people don't believe HIV/AIDS is a threat to society. Disinformation is being spread via books and religeon than can be countered by real information.

HIV-1 was identified more than 50 years ago but not given a name because the virus could not be ID'd

HIV-2 was identified less than 5 years ago and it is the one that has the world health officials sacred to death. It matures faster and kills faster. If HIV-2 were to merge with the influenza virus you would have a killer that would decimate the human population. There would maybe be 550000000 people living when it was done in just the first round the world trek. It would kill over 6 billion people in less than 5 years and another 300000000 in the following 2 years.

It must be taken seriously or our civilization is doomed.

There were 2 guys from work back in the 1980's who had died, and there are a few now who are positive. My best friend and his partner are both positive, plus I had a cousin who died from it 10 years ago (having lived with HIV for 10 - 15 years). I didn't even know his status until about 3 months before he passed away.

The question is not in bad taste. I think that a lot of people think that it has disappeared, when in fact, it hasn't, which is sad because I hear that a few young guys are having unprotected sex these days. The message needs to get out to be safe.

It's not just through sex either. If you're an IV drug user, don't share needles. Now I believe that blood is screened better these days, so that the transfusion risk has been reduced. If I'm not mistaken,

Hmmmm, having come out of the closet "before" AIDS and living in San Francisco when it was announced, I doubt very much if many of my friends back then are still alive. I have personally known at least 53 people who were HIV+, but have only attended one funeral of someone who died from ARC (AIDS Related Complications). A few of the people I knew who were HIV+ died in car wrecks and other accidents.

i am a pharmacy technician and 4 of my patients have HIV/AIDS. They are all doing well, so I haven't attended any funerals yet. I have never met anybody outside of work that I knew had HIV/AIDS, just my patients, I can tell by their meds.

Shame you lost so many to a disease that is preventable. AIDS is like the only illness you have to work at to catch.

Wow, that is a lot. Fortunately I do not know anybody who has AIDS or knew anyone that had AIDS.
