When flies contribute to society in a positive manner, I will consider them worthy. Until then if all they can do is buzz in your ear while you sleep, spread disease, and be a general nuisance they will get zero respect from me.

I don't think people should necessarily go outside looking for flies to kill with a fly swatter but when you are trying to have dinner and there is one buzzing the Thanksgiving Turkey, you can't just sit the fly down and have a little chat or a time out session until everyone has eaten. It's a sad thing... they don't have brains to understand, so you have to nuke them with the old swatter. Fly control is necessary in commercial places for obvious reasons. Plus how many people would buy meat out of the butcher store display case if there were several flies buzzing the T-Bone steaks... you can bet there would be a slump in the steak sales. Flies are ok and they have their necessary part, no doubt, but I think a few that meet their doom off to the side of the dinner table won't be too sorely missed. Maybe your question should be if "everything' should be given a chance to live. Well, to even that I would say, he had his chance and he lived his life to the fullest. He gambled with fate and lost due to his greed of wanting turkey over the rotten carcass off to the side of the road, down the street.

Flies are not human. I am not saying flies are right to kill, just that they are of any value. Humans are of value.

Because flies are annoying and pointless, and carry disease. I also kill roaches, ants, spiders, and fleas.
Humans add something of value to the planet, at least.

though flies do contribute to fish - which have contributed to my stomach lately - i found that helpful...
but about humans having positive contributions...
the city i live in recently had an 'air quality alert' -
i think humans have contributed, quite extensively, to their own well-being - but as for the planet's well-being... the dice are still rolling... yes/no/maybe?

I've noticed that these groups that want to save everything never mentions wanting to keep the AIDS virus alive.
