Only really Minnesota needed a QB, this is the age of over-abudance of good quarterbacks. Nobody really needs one these days alot of teams have their quarterbacks of the future already. Oakland really didn't want to pass up in their eyes a sure thing QB in Russell. Quinn had some question marks with him.

I honestly think this class of QB's was being compared to last years. Obviously, its not even close considering you had leinart, young, cutler headlining it.
So, I think they didn't want to shell out the big bucks this year. Only team that did was oakland and they were real desperate for one so they got the QB w/ the first pick. They would've been in a better shape if they got one in last year's draft, but hindsight is 20/20.
I think Al Davis (he's still in charge regardless of the coach) still wants to try the long bomb, so he went w/ the QB that obviously has the arm for it.
In contrast, Quinn threw for a lot of short passes (Tom Brady style) in Charlie Weis' offense.
Oakland can have success this year 'cause Lane Kiffin worked w/ Norm Chow's playbook at USC . But only if they let him mix it up w/ short, mid, long, left, right throws. This was SC's success cause they left the other team guessing on every play, plus they had the talent ofcourse.
I think the BCS loss and struggle against USC during his career might have also hurt Brady Quinn's draft rank, just not sure to what degree.

With Quinn the felling was that he was as good as he was going to get. He's in a pro offense. He doesn't have any More to learn. He's as physically able as he's going to get. What you see now is what your getting. With Russell the feeling was he's just starting to develop. He's going to get much better in a couple of years. Every team drools at the thought of getting a great QB in the first round. So that says so much about what all those teams thought about Quinn.

Quinn is sweet.
But in the NFL every reporter and every fan just wants to pay attention to the QB.
So even though Quinn is a great QB, people in the NFL offices are too scared to take a chance on him.

I'm still scratching my head on that one. I thought Quinn should have gone to Oakland because he's more pro-ready than Russell, who - let's be honest - is highly overrated. And, not to give the teams that passed on Quinn any leniency, but - with the exceptions of Miami and Detroit - most of them drafted for need (St. Louis especially).

Most of the teams after Cleveland picked Joel Thomas instead of Quinn were already set at QB. Some argue that Carolina should have grabbed him, but they didn't. Those other teams simply had higher priorities than QB.

oakland's highest priority was a QB and they believed russell was the best fit for them, so they picked him. cleveland had interest in quinn but decided O-line was a bigger need, then later wanted him. teams probably wanted him, but decided other positions were their biggest priority. detroit and miami probably felt that calvin johnson/drew stanton or ted ginn/john beck was a better combo then say brady quinn/sidney rice. and minnesota feels their QB situation is fine with second-year Tarvaris Jackson, who they selected in the second round the previous year.

I agree with everything Ragman_1985 said, except for one thing, Miami needed a quarterback on draft day. Trent Green is no spring chicken and the Dolphins probably need to look into a franchise QB. Other than that small bit, everything he said was pretty much spot on.
Cheers!

because as you watch Brady quinn in the NFL you will see that he probably should not have been taken even as high as he was
