They throw it to the 3rd baseman after a strikeout and no one on base and the ball goes around the infield once and then back to the pitcher. It's mainly to keep the infielders loose.

Usually a team will throw the ball around the infield after a strikeout when no runners are on base. With runners on base it will go directly back to the pitcher. Remember, runners are free to advance a base at any time so the defensive team is not going to be throwing the ball around the infield with runners on base.

well the term is "around the horn" and it's a tradition. it also happens when a play in the infield is made for an out. when there's runner on base it doesn't happen. and it doesn't happen on the third out...but they throw the ball third to second to short then back to the pitcher.

Its called throwing it around the horn. It is only done when there are not runners on base. The catcher or other players can't risk throwing the ball away when they are just tossing it around after the out.

It is called throwing the ball around the horn and they only do it with less than 2 outs and nobody on base.
