It kind of gives us confidence to be admired, and makes us feel insignificant if no one pays any attention to us, and a lot of people feel terrible if people hate them. Some people, however, are impervious to this. I think it all comes down to your own security. You can only see yourself from your own point of view. Many people are either blind to their own faults or their own worst critics, and rely on others to tell them if they're "good" or "bad".
