Yup - Its short for Channel Tunnel. It's the tunnel that runs under the English Channel and connects France with England.

It's featured at the end of the first Mission Impossible movie - great scene with the train headed for the Chunnel.

Yes, it is a under water tunnel in Europe. I forget the exact cities it connects, but it crosses the English Channel. When they were building it, somebody combined English Channel Tunnel into Chunnel and the name stuck.
