A Series of Unfortunate Events- by Lemony Snickett. It's a series of books that my kids have enjoyed and also the first 3 books were combined into a movie.
The Magic Treehouse- don't know the author.
Poetry books by Shel Silverstein- " A Light in the Attic", "The Giving Tree" and "Where the Sidewalk Ends" are a few. Some really good "gross" but appropriate poems and they are fun for the whole family!

Hello
He could try the hardy boys!
My 9 year old brother is also an exceptional reader and enjoys them! There is magic tree house which I even enjoy although they teach history. Series of Unfortunate events are very good as well they dont have as much gross stuff but are very high packed with action, mystery, and secret plans and such!
Hope this was helpful!

How about Where the Side Walks Ends or Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein. If you are buying a book... these books are "lasters" the boy will read them again and again... I also recommend a library card from the nearest or most convenient library.
