The popular joke is 'Round Slovenia in 80 minutes', but it really has a lot to offer. Actually, it's got everything in one place: the mountains (the Alps), the beautiful countryside with valleys and rivers (Bela Krajina, Dolenjska), the seaside.
The people are not temperamental and this is the reason many would say 'it's not a very exciting place', but it's ok if you want a rest from a hectic life. The services are good, and so are the roads and other basic elements of a holiday. I personally like it for its undisturbed, relaxed atmosphere.
edit: ivana, you're not giving credit to the Slovenian coastline, :) 'cause they do have a seaside, however small it may be. Piran is my favourite place in Istria!

Its small and you can get around it quickly.
I had 2 nights in Ljubljana and felt that was AMPLE time...its quite small and you get around the main areas very quickly...the castle on the hill, while it looks nice does not have anything there worth seeing and unless you want to sill some time in, its not worth the climb.
Ljublijana is called little prague and it does have that feel to it I must say (but it is little).
I went to Lake Bled for a night, which is lovely and has another caslte on a cliff, but I didn't climb that one and alittle island in the middle of the lake which you can get trips to, but the little church there is not overly exciting..it does give you some nice views.
I then took a bus to Lake Bohinj which is not that far form Lake Bled and its less populated and more "wild" and nice for a couple of hours to get away (buses there are reasonably regular).
Thats all I saw, its pretty and nice...but not especially busy or "exciting" like other places, but I enjoyed my little holiday there....I personally like Croatia more, but still recommend it.
