Good Question the short answer is yes however in addition to Romans there are also Lombard’s (northern Italians with blond hair and blue eye’s) Arabs (Sicilians with big beards and dark brown skin) there is also a huge Greek population in Italy especially in the south (although Greeks and Romans are so similar and had so much contact and cultural exchange it’s a dubious task to separate them from ethnic Latin’s), ethnic Latin’s generally have olive skill green or brown eyes medium height with light to dark brown hair and are usually hairier than most people probably why the ancient Romans put so much time and effort in getting there hair groomed and plucked)

Of core that’s just ethnicity. The cultural Impact of the Romans was so extreme in Europe that (even though they’d never admit it) every country and people are roman. The governments and civil order in the entire western world is based on roman government. Especially in Latin and Greek speaking.

Besides ethnicity anyone can embrace roman culture facial features and skin color are just that features.

Oh and by the way I am Italian and I don’t like to think I’m roman I know it. There are no cultural differences between Romans and Italians plus every nation and people have been invaded and occupied. Take Ireland home of Celts the British have invaded numerous times do Irish consider themselves British. What of Greece they’ve been invaded by every one from Arabs to Goths and from Celts to Persians yet there still Greek.

Hope this helps

Due to the persuasive nature of legionaires, it would be impossible to rule out Roman blood in anyone with mediterranean ancestry.

Let's not forget as well that Romans quite easily outnumbered other peoples of the time, with one million people living in the city of Rome alone around 100ce. Meaning their lineage and genetics are more likely to be passed down than say...the Selucids.

I would venture to say that the average Italian is more directly descended from Joe Roman than the average Greek, Turk, Spaniard, Yugoslavian, Frenchman, Briton, Arab, North African, Etc.

Most importantly, what does it matter? I mean if there were a sudden genetic need to enslave vast swathes of people, rape plenty of women and young men, and to fight very close together with swords, I suppose it would be a leg up. Until then, I wouldn't worry about Italians taking over Europe.

The Roman Empire ended by the "migration of peoples". Then many Germanic people migrated to Italy.
