The year 2012 is surrounded in many doomsday myths. The Mayan calender ends in 2012 and that spooks people. Nostradamus predicted nuclear war or some natural disaster would bring a rise of an Anti-Christ type in that year. Oil production is predicted to peak in that year with possible global instability as a result. A comet comes dang close to the Earth. And, the Sun's axis reverses causing more solar activity that could spew harmful radiation onto the Earth. And, the Philadelphia / Montauk experiments (the Eldridge) is supposed to have some consequence in a time loop or whatever in 2012. Here is a link about the Montauk stuff:

How about 3 1/2 paragraphs?
Hey you asked what was suppose to happen in 2012, well all the answerer's dealing with the Mayan calender, and the planet line up. creating an end and a new beginning.
That IS what is suppose to happen.
My belief is different, BUT you did not ask opinion, just WHAT IS THE BUZZ...The Mayan calender is the BUZZ. every one else is giving personal beliefs.
Whether I agree with the beliefs or not does not change the 2012 Mayan Calender! I hate to admit it, I am hoping it is for real, we could use a change for the better

The ancient Mayans believed that the world as we know it will end on 12/21/12, but not that the world would end completely. Supposedly we as a human race will enter into some type of enlightened period or some change in the earth itself would cause a change in how we currently live. It's not a prediction that the world will explode or fall into darkness. It is notable that many of their predictions about the future have come to be true.

The world is not going to end.
A new cycle of the Mayan Long Count calendar begins: Baktun 13. It's the same hysteria as the 1999-2000 thing (I just read a book where the author called Y2K an "odometer for idiots") and will have the same result: none.
The calendar is NOT ending, time is not ending, the world is not ending.
Have a nice day.

Olympics in London? hey i will turn 20! since i was born in 1992 if add together 1+9+9+2=21 and if i reverse it to 12 and i take my then age of 20 and then add the 12 get 2012! wow fun with numbers. bday is 2-9 and would not work so made it a stretch with the 1992 thing. always thought it kool that my bday is 2-9-92 sure that means something somewhere.

The Mayans had a calendar that was more accurate than the one used today and it ends on Dec 21, 2012. So people are assuming a lot.

It is the time that our planet's pole lines up with the galactic center. Happens every 26000 years. It is possible that the planet can shift in some way. I have read about it on a few astronomy websites and on religious websites. Interesting Stuff!

The scholors says that according from the bible code and the bible itself, Planet Earth (the home of the humans) will end at 12/28/12. I don't believe that's true because what it says in the bible that no man or angels except the lord itself knows "the true day of the end of the world". So it can't be at that day.

People will be born, and die, as usual. Taxes will exist, and paid, or avoided, as usual. People will fall in and out of love. Art will be made. Those previously born, if still alive, will be older. The earth will continue its rotations and revolutions, without pause, as usual, and the sun in ITS movement.
