Basically just turn it on, make sure the internet is turned on ( if the computer has a button for that) and find a provider in your range and connect to it. But most private networks are password protected. If you go to a place that says free wi-fi you will be able to connect there.

Google, wi-fi hotspots, fill in your location.
Go to the spot of your choice, some are free.
Kindly ask someone to help you, you might offer to buy them a soda or coffee, most will even refuse this but will still help you.
You learn how to use it their and maby make a new friend.

Most laptops come with a wireless network card as standard. Make sure yours have one, otherwise you can buy and install one.

If you want to use it at home, buy a router. They are quite easy to install.
