you grumble a lot and snap at people and need chocolate. :) seriously though all you need are some decent pads, maybe some ibuprofen if you aren't allergic and aren't on anticoagulant medication, and a nice hot shower once or twice a day :) good luck, it gets less uncomfortable, especially if you get tampons then you feel less icky in the end (dont buy super they're too darn big)

I am assuming you don't have an older adult to help you with this but if you can talk to your mother, aunt, sister, trusted female neighbor then that is the best thing to do... if not you need to go to the drugstore and purchase pads. There is a new type of pad out there by Always and they have "clean wipes" attached. These are wet wipes that you can use to clean your vaginal area
You will probably want to find the ones that are called "slender"--and you might want the ones with wings... because I am assuming you are a small teen or pre-teen and if you are moving around a whole bunch (riding a bike or playing) then you will want it to stay in place. Don't get the scented ones because they could cause irritation.
You put on a clean pair of underwear and remove the pad from the packaging. The big sticky part sticks to the center of your underwear between your legs so that the napkin-like part is in your panty facing up toward you...and then you pull the tabs off of the "wings" and wrap those around to the outside of your panty. You should change your pad at least 2 times a day or as needed.
When you change your pad just use the wrapper from the new pad you are about to use to wrap it up or you can wrap it in toilet paper and throw it away in the trash. Don't put it in the toilet, they don't flush!
Do not use tampons until you are able to talk to an adult about the proper way to use them as there is a specific kind of illness that--although it's rare can make you really sick.
If you have cramps in your stomach you can use a heating pad and place it on your belly. You may also take a tylenol but depending on how old you are you should ask for assistance with medication.
I know this can be really embarrassing but you should talk to an adult in your family to help you. if there is nobody in your family to talk to then you can go to the school nurse on Monday she will know what to do. It's honestly something almost every woman goes through and we have all been there. This is totally natural.
Best Wishes!
Message me if you need any help.

The first thing you do is to tell your mom (take her in to a private room if you have to do this). Then go get another pair of panties if you think the pair you are wearing is stained.
If the panties you are wearing are stained put them under some cold water to help loosen up the blood stain that got there. After that put on the clean underwear and then put a pad (because it's your first time your mom may not be comfortable with you trying to wear tampons yet) in your panties.
For the bed when it came to sleeping at night I would get a big beach type towel (an older one) to put on the top of my sheeted mattress and lie on it. This is to help if you should have any heavy flow get past the back part of the pad.
My first period started at night while I was trying to sleep and it was during a school week.
If you have any additional questions for me please feel free to e-mail or IM me away from the site any time.

Starting your period
In the days before you start your period you may feel tense or emotional. You may gain water weight and feel bloated. You may have pain (cramps) in your abdomen, back, or legs that lasts a few hours or more. Your breasts may be tender, and your face may break out.
When you start your period, you'll notice a spot of blood on your underwear or when you use the bathroom. The flow of blood from your vagina is usually light at first and may get heavier for a few days before tapering off. The blood may be a brownish color at first and then turn brighter red. Your period will usually last 3 to 7 days each month.
Ask your mom, a health professional, or a woman you trust for advice on using feminine products for the bleeding, such as tampons or pads. Tampons fit inside your vagina and are good to use when swimming or doing other physical activities. Pads have adhesive strips on them that stick to your underwear, and you'll need to change them regularly. Having a period won't prevent you from doing any of the activities you normally do, and no one will be able to tell when you're having one.
If you have cramps with your period, regular exercise, a heating pad, a warm bath, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen, ketoprofen, and naproxen may help. If you are younger than 20, do not take aspirin. Aspirin increases the risk of Reye's syndrome, a disease that affects the brain and liver. If these treatments don't help, talk to your doctor about prescription medications.

Well you should have a pad in your underwear and have enough available till your period ends. Have you talked to your mom yet? You may get some cramping in your lower belly, a ibuprofen will help that or a nice warm rag placed on your belly. Your first period is usually shorter and lighter in bleeding so I would guess it would last 4-5 days.

Congratulations!! :-) When my oldest daughter first started her period I was so thrilled. Luckily I had already talked to her about what to expect so when she started hers she asked me what was going on. Talk to your mom :-) Welcome to the women's world lol You might have some discomfort. Tylenol and midol helps. Make sure to carry extra pads and maybe even an extra pair of underwear. Don't be too surprised if your mom shares the fact that you started your period with others as I have and daughter was mad but I was excited that my baby was now growing into a women. :-)

Do you have a mother or female in your life that you can talk to? Make sure you have some pads and change them every time they start to get full. Make sure you where one until you aren't menstruating anymore. It can last up to 7 days so be aware. When you remove the pad make sure you roll it up and roll it in toilet paper. Throw it away, don't flush it. You could try tampons if you want to, but you definitely need a female to try and explain that one, and maybe show you how.

Tell your mom or a woman you trust and then you can get some pads or tampons from her. She will also help you if you need to take some pain killers and different tricks for all the crap we go through. (Well there are some guys also that know).

since it is your first period,
i would ask an adult to buy you some pads.
they go in your underwear and you should change them about every 4 hours. depending on your flow.
