Sure, if you don't mind looking a little like a raccoon. Just because you like something does not mean it will work with your coloration.

I was reading CosmoGirl one day, and their was this amazing picture of a girl with white eyeshadow. It was supposed to be a blast from the past sort of photoshoot (it was very sixties), and the model looked simply spectacular with opaque white eyeshadow. I say, go for it.
For the toned-down smokey eye, using a dark brown eyeshadow instead of black tones the look down and looks sumptuous.

not always, the bright white eyeshadow has gone way outta style, maybe a light grey... to do smokey eyes (with any color shadow/liner just make sure they match :P) you put liner on your lashes and rub it with your finger til its blended, put the medium color all over your eye lid, from eye brow to eyelashes and a tiny bit uner your eye, then put darkest shadow youre using above your top eyelashes and in the crease of your eye, the the lightest on your browbone (under your eyebrows) and on the inner corners and then take a clean blush brush and wipe from your inner eye to outer to make it all blend and add more if you need too, then mascara and boom youre done. Just watch the colors, make sure they match and arent way off from your skin tone (like blue green and white lol) for hazel/green eyes pink brown and really light brown or off white works good and for bright green eyes use a pink or tan, dark green (hunter works good) and a white/off white.

I say experiment and see for yourself. If you don't like it, don't wear it. The smokey eye look can be acheived with a black eye liner pencil and maybe some black eye shadow. You just apply the eye liner pencil to the top and bottom lash line, and then you smudge it alittle with your finger or a "smudging" tool, and then apply the black eyeshadow in the upper crease of your eye lid, just below your eyebrow bone, and then blend it in until you achieve your desired smokey-ness!!! Good luck!!

I like to use shimmery white eye shadow to line my eyes, especially in the inner corners, it really makes them pop.
