NOT puckbunnies. :D

This is a rec hockey question since obviously there's no coed pro hockey.

How do you guys feel about girls in the locker room? If a girl's on your team, does she change with you? Shower with you?

What's all right and what makes you uncomfortable.

If you're uncomfortable, should she leave or should you leave?

On all of my coed teams, I've changed with the guys, but for the most part I stay out of the showers when they're in there unless I know the guys really well and I know it's no big deal.

I don't like being shunted off and changing by myself... part of the game is being part of a team, and after I busted my *ss on the ice I want to be in there with the guys celebrating (or commiserating, if I have to).

Once or twice - usually pickup with guys I don't know - I've wound up changing alone because the vibe in the locker room was "no way." I try to be respectful, even if it irks me.

So? How do you feel about it?

I've experienced every scenario you spoke of and wasn't uncomfortable with any of them. I think it generally depends on what the girl's feelings are on it. I can see why one might prefer to dress/shower alone, but I can also understand the reasons for wanting to change in the same room.

I will admit I was a little thrown the first time a girl walked into a shower with us, but it became a non-issue pretty quickly.

The only time I recall any problems arise was when the girl in question was dating one of the guys on the team and he was the one clearly uncomfortable with his 'gal' gearing down in front of all his 'pals'. After some argument, they settled on her changing with us, but waiting for all the guys to leave before showering.

I never had a problem with it. This has come up a few times, on different teams i played on. Some women feel very uncomfortable with it, as well. The way I see it, if your playin gon the team, you should be a full part of the ream, right down to having a couple beers in the locker room, after the game. On the other hand, myself, I will be discreet, and not stand around naked in front of you. I will have some class, and change in front of a female, so she doesnt have to feel uncomfortable, or anything like that. But, alot of guys tend to be tools, and think they need to show off something, which just makes ladies, uncomfortable.

As a woman hockey player I have ,on different teams in the past, changed in the same locker room and have nicely been asked to please use another locker room. Niether bothered me. The rink that this happened at has showers down a hallway and one just for the ladies. So that is not a problem. In an rink where everything is in one room. They asked me to use another room. I also had a team of guys that didn't care if I was in the locker room or not. So I guess it really depends on the individual guy, but either way don't take it personally.

I'm perfectly comfortable with it.
There's this girl that shows up to open hockey, pretty much daily.
She was one of my first friend's at my university. I was changing and she asked if it would be OK to change with me in there. I said sure, and that she could turn around if she wanted a bit of a show. She's an awesome player and the locker room is strictly business.

On later occasions, all of the guys have been perfectly cool with her changing with us.

The showering might be a different story. I couldn't tell you as there are no girls on my team, and open hockey is open hockey. Most of the guys don't even shower then (which is disgusting).
I'd be OK with it, I don't have anything to hide. It's not like we'd attack her in the shower either. However, boys and girls showering together in a 'casual' way is severely breaking some 'norms' of society. I'm afraid that we put most things into sexual terms, when they don't have to be.

Lotusice,
I would be comfortable with it on the condition the showers were stalls. See, I have this thing that occurs when I see a woman undressed - now forgive me for being human, but the only embarassing thing I would be confronted with is my normal reaction to this event. So, if the shower stalls are in, so are you - but, and I am not trying to be negative or disrespectful in any way - it really boils down to the thing that happens "down there" when someone of the opposite sex is undressed near me. Maybe some guys it wouldn't bother them, and good for them, but me....

Great question, you sound really competitive and someone I would love to play hockey with on a team. You also have a good sense of your own security based on the description you provided above - continue to be the judge. Just continue to be careful. You are someone's daughter.

Best of luck to you!

No. The young women cover themselves up. The older women walk around with their pruny breasts sagging all the way down to their knees. They walk around bare out of the bathe with in common terms their hair turboned/coated up in a towel.. i assume your stereotypical photograph of a Hollywood females' locker room in basic terms ain't so.. perv.

honestly, girls should be allowed in to celebrate, or to discuss the game, but once the people get ready to shower, it is time to go because some guys are self-conscious and will never say it because it isn't macho or w/e. But if the team implemented a bathing suit policy or something like that, then i think it would be OK.

Ok, after reading other peoples, i have to admit that the whole, "thing that happens when i see a naked girl thing" would be uncomfortable, so if there are stalls, then its cool, otherwise, i would have to say no to an open shower area.

I don't mind at all. I don't shower at the rink though, that might be a bit much depending on the layout. I have had plenty of women change in the room.

But, I am a goalie and I'm just a little off anyway, don't listen to me.
