Some say that you will regret the day when all of your wishes are fulfilled. Why is that so.

I first thought it was because you will have no more purpose in life because you have achieved all you wanted. However, you will always have new goals in life, therefoe, you can never achieve everything. Please explain this to me.

Well, if we simplify it to your original assumption that it is when you have no more purpose in life, we can assume that the person in question, is no longer alive, since, as you say, you can always set new goals. However, if they have achieved all their goals and died, they cannot be unhappy, since they've achieved everything that they wanted. Unless, what they wanted in life was completely contrary to what the divine(however you picture the divine) had set aside for this person, in which case, they would suffer the punishment of the divine. If there is no divine (which I disagree with) then those who die ill be miserable, as they are no longer alive to enjoy the experience of life in which they acheieved all that they wanted. I'd say that it is not true that you will regret the day that all of your wishes are fulfilled, because and atheist will wish to be as prosperous in life as possible, since they believe there's nothing beyond, and they will achieve that in life if they are right, but if there is an afterlife, they will not have fulfilled all of their wishes, because they will not have acheieved their unknown wish of exaltation(prosperity), or whatever it is that happens. Any theist will wish for exaltation/ prosperity in life and beyond, but the same thing will happen when they arrive, or don't arrive, at the afterlife.

Another version is be careful what you wish for - because you'll get it.

Our (learned) egoic self is capable of wanting all kinds of things and experiences that it cannot handle. It is childish and conflicted about almost everything. However, once you become the 'observer' of the ego's thought system and conflicted beliefs and eliminate them and it, you are safe from the negative consequences of its wishes. Reality is responsive to consciousness whether you are at the mercy of your insane ego or "pure of heart."

I think it's partially because it will bring about new desires and it's just a constant cycle of wanting more, but also that depending on what you wish for...certain sacrifices will have had to be made in order to fulfill your wishes.

It's Achilles and the tortoise, isn't it? The moment you get what you want you will discover new things that you will desire. It's like attaining perfect self-knowledge. the moment you do it the environment has changed, and you have to start questioning again on the basis of the new information. As soon as you get where you are going there is a new horizon.

it is in our being to have lists even if I won the lottery I would have goals and would want to help the community having goals is a way of having purpose and we will never let go of that fact that we need goals even when we are old even if that goal is going to out side for the day

It's a curse too. To tell someone, may all your wishes be fulfilled.

I think it's because we unwittingly wish for things that would harm us or others. And sometimes we knowingly say things we wish for knowing that they would never come true such as, I wish you were dead.

It depends a whole lot on what you wish. Some wishes can't be completely fulfilled, ever.

This one is new to me.

A life of unfulfilled wishes is certainly something that I don't want. To live everyday never satisfied is more of a masochistic way to live. One could never be happy.

It was probably a woman she was probably talking about when all her wishes were fulfilled then there would be nothing to B*tch about--then she regrets it.

Because when you finally get to the top of Mt. Everest...
The only way to is down, down, down....
(Ding!)
But then you find other mountains to climb, and other valleys to explore, and the whole damn process begins again and again and again...

"Damn you, Buddha!!!" "Damn you...!!!"

(silent weeping)
