After 3 days ago when I was using IE7, for some reason, I started getting all these browser add-ons. Then I got this weird sex advertisement toolbar among other annoying and horrible things. I asked for help on a forum, and they told me about Mozilla FIrefox (www.firefox.com) and about Ad-Aware. Both things helped a lot! I ran Ad-Aware and it removed over 2000 ugly things from my computer. And Firefox, with an IE Tab, is my replacement for IE. Now I'm not getting any spyware or anything. So I'm just wondering, since about 10% of the people out there use Firefox, does anyone still use Internet Explorer ?

Firefox is crap.

It is very overrated, used mostly by pimply-faced, male, adolescent, fanboys, who are badly in need of female compansionship.. People of their ilk wouln't have a clue how to properly secure any browser.

With as many IE7 device defects as i've got heard approximately, particularly frankly IE6 is a greater good browser. :-P yet, dropping the editorializing and attending on your question ... in case you uninstall IE7 (administration Panel - upload/eliminate courses), your computing device will roll itself back to IE6. And sure, you will nevertheless have the ability to get on line. yet another probability is to get carry of the main present day loose version of Firefox. yet because of the fact curiously like IE7 has tangled up your connection, you may get that fastened first. nevertheless yet another probability: do a device restoration to a element earlier you downloaded the main present day around of updates. that would get IE7 working lower back. Then, whilst domicile windows as quickly as lower back will provide you the updates, use the custom mode and decline the replace for IE7. desire that facilitates. sturdy success!

You may want to consider the "common sense" approach to computing security....

Number one the Windows Operating System that includes Internet Explorer is one of the only Unix Certified systems in the world. Apple/Mac and Linux are not nor most or any of open source softwares including alternate browsers. This means without Unix Certification (the yard stick for computer operating systems) it is considered "Unstable". Any questions about your 10 percent rules ? This applies to Apple/Mac as well only accounting for 10 percent of world computer sales - and now you should know why. They are all deemed Unstable elements in Unix Certification.

So that pans out that Internet Explorer is the only browser achieving Unix Certification and is certified as "Stable" - meaning the most completely safe and stable browser available.

Number two, there is a multi-billion dollar security industry for Internet Explorer and Windows that has been around since the beginning whereas others are in their infancy.

The only security software around for Firefox is the SpywareBlaster and Earthlink Anti-Scam Anti-Phishing Security Toolbar. There is a script blocking plug in also as real time protection.... and that is about it. This also applies to the rest of these alternative browsers - there is no security software avalable.

{SEE why Restricted Sites Softwares damage your computer and are fraud: http://bluecollarpc.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=218 Spyware Blaster, IE Spy-Ads, SpySites, etc..)

And so the common sense arguement goes that Internet Explorer is Unix Certified and has a multi-billion dollar security software industry available to protect it and you. There is NO other browser that can say that...

What was your point ?

"Newbie Press Hype"...

What was NOT told you by these idiots is that you cannot access Microsoft support except through Internet Explorer which includes vital and necessary Windows Critical Updates which includes you should be Fully Patched at Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Internet Explorer new Version 7 - period. There have been three major "zero-day exploits" in about the last 14 months including the WMF metafile, VML, and AniCursor... these "holes" enabled malware writers to quickly launch many many malwares infecting all Unpatched machines.

You will have to think out of the box for a moment and re-examine what was told to you. Cyber criminlas DO NOT want you fullly patched or even on Internet Explorer for the above "common sense" reasons so that they can victimize you. They do pose and appear as legitimate helpers all around the Net at forums and message boards and unsupervised groups.

I am going to unashamedly add this that my personal website based entirely on Computing Security and as webmaster specializing in Spyware Removal has recently passed One Million Hits.... a personal website does not get that kind of traffic unless it is of some value. So my point is that you can consider my comments as something respected by a very large segment of computer users who indeed seek and use the BlueCollarPC.Net and .Org as at least one of their sources for computing and personal safety continually.

BTW (by the way) Your infection is a simple malware toolbar called a Browser Help Object (BHO) that is easily removed and should be for your personal and computer safety. You did not give any name associated with the threat but I can point you to one of our groups for help or to these online search engines that will help identify the threat:

CastleCops - CLSID / BHO List / Toolbar Master List http://castlecops.com/bhonew.html

CastleCops ActiveX Objects List

The malware toolbars install what is called a malware Active X in the Windows Registry which is as easy as removing as deleting read emails. Practically everyone of them is known to the security industry and all you need do is get paid antispyware that will block this from EVER ocurring again. To immediately remove the threat (strongly recommended) install bothj of these, update to latest defintions and do a full scan:

Ad-Aware [working-freeware, personal use - and premium version] http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
Ad-Aware Personal provides advanced protection from known data-mining, aggressive advertising, Trojans, dialers, malware, browser hijackers, and tracking components. This software is downloadable free of charge for personal use.

a-squared trojan remover (Free Working Version for life and Proactive Premium Version)
http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/
a-squared (a-squared) is a complementary product to antivirus software and desktop firewalls on MS Windows computers. Antivirus software specializes in detecting classic viruses. Many available products have weaknesses in detecting other malicious software (Malware) like Trojans, Dialers, Worms and Spyware (Adware). a-squared fills the gap that malware writers exploit. Automatic updates: In a-squared Free the updater must be run manually. The auto-update feature of a-squared Personal checks hourly for new available updates and installs them automatically. a-squared Free is freeware! You can download and use it completely for free. You are also allowed to distribute it to third parties. To be able to use it, you only must set up a free a-squared Account, to get access to the update server. (Note you register by simple sign up to activate definitions downloads free).

If you don't have the money right now install this for real time protection (only free program with that):

Microsoft AntiSpyware is now Windows Defender [working-freeware from Microsoft] http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx Windows Defender is a free program that helps protect your computer against pop-ups, slow performance, and security threats caused by spyware and other unwanted software. It features Real-Time Protection, a monitoring system that recommends actions against spyware when it's detected, and a new streamlined interface that minimizes interruptions and helps you stay productive.

PS.... currently there are Java threats unpatched in Firefox...

Security Recommendations
It is now strongly recommended to have a firewall, antivirus, and antispyware paid subscription security software installed, updated, and running continually for personal and computer security. It is also recommended to join at least one avenue of information and/or help such as groups or forums or RSS news feeds or simply checking any Internet News publication on security at least on a weekly basis.
