Whenever I put my face really close to my Betta's 1.5 gallon aquarium, its gills widen. Is it scared of me?

really thats amazing they usally do that when they see another male betta well he may think u are a male betta .to find out put a mirror in front of him so he will think there is another male betta and if he does the same reaction then that means he thinks u are just another male betta or he just feels threaten

Male betta's can always be aggressive, it's trying to intimidate you. Male bettas do that alot. Mine, he does it too, I think it's funny. But most fish are scared of humans. What if you were in a little bowl and all of a sudden... A HUGE FACE APPEARED!!!!!!

no all fish do that i have a male betta and he puffs out his gills when he sees his own reflection in my mirror they never do that to a human face your head just made the light reflect on his tank in a way that he could see himself. have one light on top of his tank shinning on him and no others on in your room this should solve your problem!

Well mine does that to! It is a little defense thing they do because you are a lot bigger than they are!!
